It is a verifiable fact that humans evolved from primates. The Theory of Evolution is a verifiable fact.

The word "proven" is a tricky word and, while I don't have any problem using that word, to be clearer it is best to say that the Theory of Evolution is a "verifiable" fact central to all of modern biology. Without the Theory of Evolution none of modern biology would make any sense. It is a central idea that explains the origins and development of species.

Please note that the idea of evolution is totally separate idea from the question of whether God exist or is real. No one has ever been able to prove or verify the existence of God. The same can be said for Santa Claus or unicorns, or fairies. Consequently, it is wise to dismiss ideas that cannot be proven as being real in the same sense that you are real.

You are more real than God because at least you posted a question on this forum. If someone posted to this forum, pretending to be God, everyone would know immediately that was a fraud. Why? Because it is not a reasonable idea.

In fact, its been pretty well proven that we are NOT descended
from monkeys by the scientific community.

We are mutually descended from a common ancestor which
was somewhat larger than your garden variety monkey and
much smaller than humans or any of the sapiens forms.

Comparing genetics, looking at fossil records, studying the
way evolution happens in real time (with bacteria, etc),
would strongly indicate that we evolved from a common
ancestor.

Can we prove it? Nope. Can we prove ANYTHING happened
or didn't happen in the past? Nope.

Science is all about theories with tests that attempt to disprove
them. A theory that has been repeatably tested and not found
to be false seems to be more likely than an assertion with no
supporting evidence other than that we are supposed to take
it on faith.

However, there are an infinite way for God to interact with
the world of science - ways that must be inscruitable because
if they were predictable, God would become part of the science.

Short answer: Yes, we are genetically very similar to monkeys
but we didn't evolve from them. We mutually evolved from
a common ancestor.

Absolutely not! Evolution cannot even be considered a "theory" because it doesn't meet the scientific criteria for a theory. (It cannot be observed after the fact.) Technically, there is an evolutionary "model", but real science cannot support it. If you seriously want to compare the evolutionary model to the Creation model, pick up a book called "The Evolution-Creation Controversy" by Wysong. It goes into the mathematics and science of it. Excellent book. Anyone who truly studies evolutionary ideas finds that none of it stands up to the scientific test. Most people who spout off half-baked rhetoric on evolution don't understand what they're talking about. If they had taken the time to do the research, they'd just say, "Oh," and keep their mouths shut so they wouldn't look so foolish.

If anyone tells you man descended from monkeys, just look at them and smile. Maybe they didn't really "descend" at all. Maybe they just lost some hair.

Perhaps your friends grandfather is an ape
but you know inwardly where you come from
You come from the most High God
And no one can confuse you with ape like qualities because you are awesome and have been made in God's Image and we the woman
Have come from the rib of the man
And this is why bone of thy bone is the want of every creature on earth for we must find the one where love has been placed so that we may come to love and have God's blessing come upon us
Leave the apes to Apes & monkeys because God did not look at an ape and get a brilliant idea to create man.
Apes and monkeys will always be inferior to man
they are beneath us
So do not worry about this trash
Go ask your grandmother or auntie about this they will tell you
as they reach for a shoe to throw at you if you dare mention such a stupid thing

In science you cannot prove a fact, all you can do is to accept or null a hypothesis. It always leaves open the idea that information can come at a later date to null the hypothesis that you set forward today. We theorize that gravity holds us down. It is pretty well accepted, but it is still just a theory.
So no, it is not a proved fact that we evolved from monkeys. As a matter of fact nobody in science says that we do. They say that we have a common ancestor. This has been hypothesized and the hypothesis has been accepted many times. The scientific world does not have much of a problem with this.
So to answer your question simply. No. But you should look at your question and understand that it has a much broader range of answers if you are looking at the spirit of the question.

Scientists don't claim we evolved from monkeys....the theory is that we share a common ancestor with apes. So, the answer to your question is no just because your terms are wrong. Now, is it a proven fact that we share a common ancestor with apes, scientifically it's as close to fact as possible. Evolution is a theory and in science theories aren't just something someone made up on a whim, they are backed by mountains of evidence. So, evolution is just as much of a fact as is gravity (gravity is just a theory too).

Btw, if your friend is an atheist just because of evolution...then he's not very smart. There is no reason why a theist would have to leave his faith behind just because he agreed that evolution was the truth.

"Evolved from monkeys" is a catch phrase invented by creationists to make people feel insulted at the very idea of evolution. No one other than creationists says "evolved from monkeys".
Your atheist friend is not a scientist.
You are not a good communicator.
Before you can make a good argument about anything, you have to know what the other person's case actually is. It does no good to weaken someone's case before pretending to do away with it. You haven't proven anything until you prove it at full force or until you refute the actual argument.
The actual argument is that humans have not always been the way they are now, that we have developed over the course of many, many generations, that our brains have grown, that our abilities have increased, that we have and that we continue to evolve.
Well, some of us, anyway...you and your atheist friend, not so much.

1. Humans didn't evolve from monkeys. Both humans and monkeys evolved from the same ancestor. That's what science says.
2. Something can be proven only if it can be repeated in experimental conditions... so, if we would start the experiment now, I'm almost sure we'd produce a human from a monkey in lets say... million years. Are you willing to wait for so long?

No, God gave us the ability to think on our own. But Satan is always at work in this world to. Doubt if from Satan. God is real, and I do believe that God allowed creatures to evolve so that they could survive, but we have always been human, not monkeys. We have not had to evolve because our large brain and thinking capacity lets us survive while other animals do not have this ability so they have to evolve. Ask your friend this: If we evolved from monkeys, why are there still monkeys in the world? Why did they not evolve into humans?

No, your friend doesn't understand evolution. Evolution does not claim that we evolved from monkeys, it says that both humans and monkeys evolved from a common ancestor. It's not proven fact, it's only a theory, just like "god created us" is only a theory. There is a ton of evidence to support evolution though, there is no evidence to support the theory that we were created by god.
