1) Because in the supernatural realm faith has "substance". It is a force which effectively accomplishes action. *
2) Jesus Christ did not die "at the hands of all which is sacred". Unless of course, you count political officials, Roman soldiers, discontented Jerusalem populace, and blind and shallow religious leaders as "sacred". Those religious leaders completely missed the arrival of Messiah, even though they had the exact details in their prophetic writings. **
In fact, every individual in this world actually sent Jesus Christ to "The Cross". He died for every single person in this world, so that they would have the opportunity to live eternally. It is a choice to choose to believe, or not. However, even if there had only been you in the world he would have died for you. He loves you that much! ***

I think the answer to this depends on what religion you talk to. From a Christian standpoint, it's based on faith because there is supposed to be a choice. If everything was completely straight forward, then everyone would believe it and there would be no choice. I'm a little confused about that last part of the question though...I'm not sure what you're trying to say.

Religion requires Faith, but Faith does not require Religion!
At this time I am a member of a church, I may or may not always be. I will always be a Christian! That is a relationship, not a religion!

Kind of having a hard time following you dude. I guess to say that people of differing opinions will and always will have their own belief outside of Jesus dying for our sins. Which is that religion is faith until everyone universally accepts one religion?

Not all is based on faith -- almost all religions have another side where they're used properly: to go beyond faith and have a direct experience. While this is most evident in Zen, almost all other religions have it, too -- christianity (see: meister eckhart, st john of the cross), islam (see rumi and sufis), judaism (see kabala).

You have mistaken, Oriental religion is not faith based at all. Budhism, Hinduism are not faith based at all... Though many people are.....
