Lets face it society isn't going to get rid of us smokers, but there might be a way that people who smoke could maybe look so bad. I am try to see if there is possibly a way that someone can smoke with good etiquette? What rules should there be to smoking, besides to ones already imposed(in bars and restuarants)

Well, for one, if there is anyone in your general vicinity that doesn't appreciate you smoking around them, go somewhere else. Also, don't throw your cigarette butts on the ground or out of your car window. And lastly, don't blow smoke in other people's faces, it's just not nice.

When I smoke, I generally try to stay away from non-smokers. (i.e., at work, it's a lot more convenient for me to go outside in the side entrance, but there are generally a lot of people there [there's a hotel next door to the building where I work], so I go out the front entrance and stand away from other people who aren't smoking. I also try to stand where there's a cross-draft so that I don't hang out in a cloud of smoke. I've found that most non-smokers don't like the way smoke smells. I also wash my hands and face when I go back inside after my break, and chew gum.)

As far as good etiquette for smoking — stop. I don't want you to die horribly.

Please go to a Medical Center and visit the Oncology unit. Sit in the waiting room for an hour or so, and observe the lung and throat cancer patients who have come in for their chemotherapy. If what you see doesn't scare the living daylights out of you to quit, then I don't know what to tell you. Talk to some of the patients & hear their stories.

It's just not socially acceptable — it's rude. Healthwise, second hand smoke endangers the health of everyone around the smoker. It irritates peoples eyes, sinuses and causes headaches and damage to blood vessels, etc. It is as bad as people who wear heavy cologne or perfume.

Smoker's breath is awful and not sexy in any way. Their clothing smells bad, too. Those, who continue to smoke in California must go out of the building away from others to have their cigarette. The coughing can be quite annoying & hacking unflattering.

California's got it together! You can actually breathe in restaurants, clubs, stores, shops, work — virtually everywhere. Living is more enjoyable.

As a former smoker, I was always very considerate of others who do not smoke. No person ever was inconvenienced or upset by my smoking.

My father, who died with Black Lung, never exposed other people to his smoke. He always went outdoors in order to smoke without disturbing others or the house/building that he happened to visit.

The best etiquette that I can think of is to go outdoors and smoke, where the smell, smoke and ashes aren't affecting anyone or anything indoors. You could not be more considerate than that! Best of luck.

Here's what I do:
I never smoke inside: even my own house.
I try to not smoke when others are around.
Before I have a ciggy I always excuse myself for a smoke and proceed to walk away.
I never smoke around children or in parks (I have 2 small children)
