THE WHOLE COUNTRY!!!
It all depends on what you like best...

If you like castles visit the Loire Valley (and Versailles)

if you like mountains go to l'Isère around Grenoble

If you like fantastic big cities go to
a) Paris (marvelous museums!)
b) Lyon (medieval quarter!!)

if you like cathedrals go to Paris,Chartres, Reims, Lyon

if you like quaint smaller cities, go to Avignon, Aix en Provence, Brest, Cannes, Nice, Bordeaux, Toulouse

if you like beaches the Côte d'Azur or the Atlantic coast at the Basque country

if you like gambling Deauville, Cannes, Monaco

if you want the best food in the world go to Lyon (that is where Bocuse is from)

I could go on for hours....

You have good hotels all over the country, 3 stars are good, no reason to pay for 4 stars.....

If you want to check out hotel price ranges go to the following site

www.paris35.com

and take it from there...

Whatever part you finally choose...Bon Voyage!

I do have a suggestion for a hotel -- go to venere.com and then click on through. I used that when my sis & I went & we got a hotel for a week for 79 euros a night. We only slept there as we were on the go all day. It was Hotel Nord Est & was close to the Metro and busses. Had a great time & got all over with no trouble at all. Just watch out for pickpockets as in any other large metro area.

For Paris I sugest you Hotel Ascot Opera-rue Monsigny no.2.It's a very well located one, so you can visit the beauties of Paris during all day and night. It's a small hotel, but in a quiet area.
