I am a fairly intelligent young woman and I usually surround myself with intelligent people. I recently started seeing a guy who isn't really at my intelligence level. He isn't unintelligent, just not what I am used to. We do have stuff to talk about but I am hesitant to start up any sort of debates, whether on religion, politics, etc. Should I stick it out? Is intelligence the end all?

No. You can be with him and if you dont feel comfortable debating with him or he isnt intelligent enough to debate then talk about the things you do have in common and things you both enjoy and save the debates for your friends who are able to debate. He might be the one person who will care for you like nobody else ever will and you might be willing to give that up over the fact he isnt the most intelligent guy in the world? If he loves you, respects you , and cares for you hang on to him because guys like that are hard to come by.

Intelligence is not determined by whether or not you can argue a debate on religion, politics, etc. Unfortunately the more intelligent the person usually the less common sense they seem to have. Therefore, the debates are not very stimulating. If I'm to have a debate I prefer to hear about the person's feelings and concerns that come from the heart.... Not the memorized so called facts that come from the brain. I'd rethink dating him. He could break your heart when he gets bored of facts being thrown at him instead of you thinking for yourself. It always amazes me how self titled "intelligent people" never seem to be intelligent enough to get what's truly important. I'm really not trying to bash you personally. I've just known too many "intelligent people" who don't know their head from a hole in the ground. It's frustrating.

opposite attract. Its good you have a guy that's not as intelligent as your self. Its okay. You need to ask how do you feel when your around him. He obviously makes you feel different then most other people. Is he fun to be around. does he make you laugh. Does he care for you. Does he show that he respects you. You have probably answered yes to all of these, take a chance, live a little and enjoy the adventure your about to go on.

There are some very intelligent people who are complete a$$holes..think they are the best.....No intelligence isn't just the one thing to look for ..If he is fun and can carry on a conversation then WHY NOT !!!

depends how far below you he is..
I've dated people not quite 'up to my level' and for some it was only an occasional issue, since i get angry at stupidity :(... a few people though I couldn't handle it, I felt like I was talking to a child or a brick wall.

Start a small debate with him, something simple, maybe he's got more back there than you realize :) or at least some passion/conviction for what he does know.

Really wait to see how bad it is, if you start having thoughts like 'man this guy is dumb' you need to end it

How high is your EQ, not IQ, a high IQ leads you to good marks in school and tests, but Emotional Intelligence EQ leads you to happiness, freedom, peace, love and stability, if your guy has a high emotional quotient you will enjoy the rest of your life with him, not only a good educated conversation

avoid conversation like that...in life you are intelligent if you are sensitive to others feelings, knows how to handle a nice conversation even the person is not on your level...if you are not comfortable having a conversation to them, just avoid it....that's being intelligent...that's being smart...

find some one that compliments your intelligence unless you're a control freak that wants a subordinate
