Teach them how to cook a simple dish or a dessert they will enjoy eating afterwards. That will be something both of you will enjoy doing, I think.

Well I take mine to the bookstore. They love books and have books for all ages plus they usually have a child section with trains or videos playing, even occassionally a puppet show. You can usually pick up a flyer detailing events too. You can read to them or show them pictures and learn about anything that peaks your interest. If not there maybe maybe a "discovery zone" kind of place. If you have one in your area. Although I'd be afraid that they would surely catch a cold or something from a place like that. I have played find the treasure with a child who couldn't read. You basically place cards with pictures of the "clue" places and you hide another clue there until eventually you lead them to the treasure. Try to stretch it out and make sure to pick items that are easily identifable from your drawings/pictures. Have fun!

Go to a museum (childrens museum, natural history museum, etc), cooking a simple dish or baking is a good idea, how about wash the car (the old fashioned way), bowling, the library, the park (but not the usual park..find some out of the way, new parks). Go hiking, depending on the age of your child, most state parks have different difficulty levels of trails and let them "explore" or give them a little treasure hunt. I am always trying to come up with stuff to do myself! Its not easy sometimes to come with creative, new things!

I don't know how old your children are. We used to do this when mine were smaller. You could use this site to learn to make icecream in a can. We would make up stories. We'd roll the can around. Who ever had the can would add on a new part to the story. After the end of the rolling period, our story would be finished, and we would eat the ice cream we just made. It is two activities in one.

Swimming is always great
Also, if there is an Ice Skating Rink or Roller Skating Rink, that can also be fun
Movies are great, even if you sneak in your own snacks and stay away from the dreaded expensive food at the theater

Cooking together is fun. Cakes are nice but food for lunch or dinner is even better. There are some really good books on cooking with children, look on Amazon or just google it.

I would have to say playing at the beach making sand castles with my daughter and making those fun mud pies! there's nothing to excite a child more than collecting funny shaped rocks to add to the sand castles and splashing water with her..

Know what's the most fun though? just being able to spend time with her and letting her tell you what's in her mind :) kids love it when they can talk to their parents and their parents listen .. that's when the biggest smile comes in :) yipee!!!

Sit down with your child and give him/her your devoted attention. You can sit there sing their favorite songs with them, ask them of their interests, teach them things that your parents taught you, tell them stories of your childhood or tell them of their grandparents. My children love to talk about all that they are interested in and they love to hear of my childhood stories and stories about their grandparents.

Well, if your kids are teenagers (like me) nothing is really fun, because we don't want to be bothered and the parents don't want...well they actually do want to talk to their kids, it's just that it's awkward and weird for for the teens.
