Very aggravating circumstances to be sure.
I would say something to the effect of "Let me get this straight, I am doing you a favor, using my vehicle and my gas on this hot, hot day and you don't even have the good grace to be ready when I arrive? Tell me friend what would you do if you were me?" And then let them answer. If they have a genuine circumstance that held them up I would certainly say, "Well never mind then, my bad, hop in." If they were just selfish you've made your point. And I do actually say this, saves me a lot of aggravation and gas, I'll be happy to assist anyone but they must make the same effort in assisting themselves.

I would show up at the mechanics and wait about five minutes before walking in to retrieve them. If I was unable to locate them I would ask one of the attendants. If the results were negative I would leave. Yes, you are not a Taxi services, but you are a friend. A friend in need is a friend indeed.

If they knew about when you were coming, Id wait 5 minutes tops, and then leave! Its a favor for a friend, not a freakin taxi service....... right???????

You are doing them a favour, you are not required to wait for them because they should be outside waiting for you... and if you show up and they are not there, you are required to leave and they are required to apologize.
