Speaking from experience, find a job first. Be sure and checkout a website http://sandiego.craigslist.org . You should know before you make the move that living is California can be ROUGH. I does have it's benefits though. As an example, I live in the San Francisco Bay area about 40 miles from San Francisco. I am paying in excess of $2,000 a month for rent of a 3 bedroom apartment here. Gas prices are the highest in the nation and with the Alaska pipeline being shut down are expected to reach near $5.00 a gallon in the very near future. Also, it is going to be difficult to find a place to rent that accepts one dog much less 2. You may check out Archstone Apartments, we rent from them and have a dog and 3 cats but we had to pay almot $1500 in pet deposits. That being said, California is a wonderful state to live in. Good luck.

I moved to San Diego a few years ago without securing a job first. I had a few thousand dollars to support myself, which I needed because it took a few months to find a decent job. I was able to get an apartment before moving because of my good credit, then I started looking for work once I got here. If you have some savings to support yourself for 2-3 months, then I would say go ahead and move. It is easier to find a job once you are actually living in a place. This will also give you a few weeks to enjoy your new city before getting into the exhausting routine of working. San Diego is great and you will love it here.

what ever you do have a job line up before you move down there. I am from California, SF i am telling you life is so expensive out here. As far as leaving with your friend for a while until you get a job sound ok but If i were you i won't do it. If she is your best friend i will advice you not to live with her because it might change your relationships that you guys have. When you live with some one they are not the same person that you know they are and i don't think you want to get involve. Any how do what you think is right for yourself, you know you better than i do. good luck!

If you must have the dogs at least post your resume in San Diego first so that you can interview as soon as you get there. Its expensive to fly back and forth NJ 2 SD just for an interview

job first, or at least have some interviews lined up prior to moving out there. will be hard to setup interviews this way but you'll at least have something to go with. once there it'll be easier to lock down a job and start over again.

move...then look. Mission beach is cool ! most people are slaves to their jobs...me I move to where I want to live , then work it out...most are afraid to gamble. Its always worked out for me. If your persistant , you can't fail. For quick cash while looking for a desirable job...look under employment in the yellow pages for day labor jobs that pay DAILY. Labor Ready is a big one , but there are others also....good luck.
