not everyone is hateful or hostile towards us. but on Yahoo Answers ppl get to hide behind their little avatars and screen names and do what they will. debate is great...bigotry is ridiculous, but part of human nature unfortunately.

maybe one day ppl would be more tolerant..but unless we lose our free will...that is not likely to happen.

Grandma Susie you said "Christians don't pick on unbelievers, but the unbelievers think it is open season on Christians."

i have been physically AND verbally attacked by so called "Christians" who beat on me because i don't believe in your "loving god!" ...so your assumptions are dead wrong!! do i hold every christian accountable for their actions? NO i don't!
and i don't think its OPEN SEASON for Christians...i just find the arrogance some have to be repulsive.

>>>i am agnostic but it seems to me that people that believe in god can't stand people who arnt sure or dont believe so why is that?<<<

I don't think that's true. I know people who don't believe in God, and it's not true that I "can't stand" them.

>>>i mean there is no absoulute proof that god exists or that he doesnt <<<

That's your opinion and you're entitled to it -- but I don't know why you are interpreting disagreement with that opinion as "hatred toward atheists."

By the way, you admit that there's no proof that God doesn't exist -- so why do you believe that He doesn't?

Why do you believe something (the idea that God doesn't exist) that you yourself acknowledge isn't proven?

I am a Christian and I don't hate Atheists on principal - I DO hate it when atheists can't respect people who believe in God, and when they twists the lessons that the Bible teaches to make it sound like we're all sick, twisted, cruel or crazy, the way that the first poster in this topic did (by the way, the Bible does not say to kill or convert, it says that if we aren't saved we will suffer spiritual death and eternity in Hell).

I've yet to meet a religious person who hates an atheist simply because they're an atheist. What you're seeing is probably just people who are fed up with hypocrites and jerks.

I'm not sure I can really answer for others but I don't hate Atheists
It is the tactics that are used such as profane language. I have had e-mails from 2 so far that seemed to be well knowledged but could not prove their theories or explain thoroughly. I have had contact with some who go off and use obscenities to try and prove their point.
Irregardless it is the individual that causes the strife not necessarily the Atheist.

One of my closest friends is a HARDCORE atheist. He'll argue with me every chance he has. I obviously don't believe that he is in a place I want him to be, but I certainly don't hate him! I love him (hetero, like a brother) even more and try to avoid pushing him or backing him into a corner.

Now that doesn't mean I hide my beliefs, just the opposite.
But hate him?!?
Never.

God really does exsist and i'm a christian and i have a few atheist friends but i dont hate them i hate that they dont believe there aint a God and how they always try to convince people that there isnt one. but i dont hate them...its just what they do i hate. k? i mean the only proof we have that He exists is because He told us so in the Bible. where do u think the Bible came from? He told the people to write it. got it?

Fear, people fear what they do not understand. Most people can not stand the thought that when one dies it is over, the end. Nor can they deal with the thought that those that have died before them are simply dead. These things scare them and it is that fear that drives them to hate and act out against those that believe other than the way that they do.

Nobody enjoys it when their insanity and irrationality is pointed out and challenged, especially if they base the purpose of their whole life on it

Christians don't "hate" atheists, they may hate the offensive, hateful, insulting things they say, but they don't really hate the person. Christians don't pick on unbelievers, but the unbelievers think it is open season on Christians.
