I'm a new step dad to a wonderful 7 year old girl!! But..Im really new at this...with school about to start where is a good place to bring her school shopping for clothes? Her bio dad brings her to W-Mart but the clothes just look....bad. He seems to buy dollar rack sweatpant type clothes that just makes my skin crawl! Mom is tied up with college classes and I thought it might be a fun father daughter thing!!

oh! Don't worry...I never say anything negative about the bio dad when she's around!! I don't care for the guy but he's her father...wouldn't take (or try) that from her.

Nice clothes at a decent price: Target and Kohls, maybe Old Navy (if they're having a sale). Remember, because you're a man, you can't enter the dressing room area, but you have every right to stand outside and ask to see everything she's trying on to make sure they fit, they're appropriate, and that they look all right. You're her father now, and not a lot of Dad's go clothes shopping with their daughters, so don't let any rude comments detur you from doing your job. Good luck, your wife should be proud of you for stepping up to the plate.

Give her a budget and take her where she likes the clothes. Explain to her that she can get more clothes from an inexpensive store than she can at a designer store. Check the sales racks. Most kids wear summer clothes to school for atleast a month or two. Buy her clothes she can mix and match to create a variety of outfits. Buy her a nice pair of shoes or two. Nothing with a chunky sole. She will need some sneakers and a pair of dress shoes. Great kids stores are Gap Kids, and Limited Too. Great stores with kids clothes are Kohl's, Target, and any large department stores. You could also try Marshalls, Loehmans, or TJ Maxx. They often have great buys if you are willing to look around.

Definitely Old Navy and Target, but also you could try Gap Kids, or Limited for Kids (I think it's called Limited 2). Also, places like JC Penney, Sears, Elder Beerman have nice clothing that is reasonable priced. Good Luck, definitely a great thing for a daughter and father to do.

Target, Kohl's, Sears, just remember buy what she likes but try not to go to expensive she will grow out of them soon. Also congrats on stepping up to the plate she will remember that in the future. I have an 11 yr old stepdaughter and experiences like the one you are having with yours will only make your guys bond stronger. Just don't change who you are for the bio father it is really really hard to be a step parent when the other one is around don't let him push you out of the scene. That is what my stepdaughters mom is trying to do and it gets on my very last nerve.

First of all, lay off picking on the biological Dad. She's going to pick up on the attitude.

If you really want to earn some brownie points, take her to Limited Too. It's very pricey, but the clothes are fabulous. Disney Store, Old Navy, Baby Gap and Target are all other good choices. Good Luck.

I prefer to shop at Old Navy for my kids. We hit the clearance racks first and sometimes never make it to the "new releases" before the cart is full. At 7, she may not know the difference between Gap and Limited kids so ask her what type of clothing she is looking for. What is your step daughter's style. If she is the dresses/ lace type, you might find yourself at the more expensive stores, if she is comfortable is jeans, kakhi's and what not, I would suggest Old Navy, Kohl's- cute and comfortable.

You are so cool!!! Your stepdaughter is really going to appreciate your efforts one day. Nordstrom has great kids clothes and has great sales too. Kohl's is good and carries good name brands at a lower cost. Target stuff is pretty and won't bust your wallet wide open. You also might try The Limited Too, which carries clothes just for kids around your daughters age.

First thing, kudos to you for stepping up to the plate!! Very cool and something she will definately remember in the long run.

Second, ask her where she likes, and what kind of clothes. Good places:
Sears
Macys
Ross (nice brand names for less) if budget is an issue. ( we have a ten yr old.. .they grow quick..sometimes Ross is needed)
Depends on her size as well. Is she a smaller 7yr old, or larger.
