It's called a replacement detachment because all Soldiers coming in to a duty station report there first and from there it is determined what unit needs the Soldier. Also, this is where the Soldier and his/her family is welcomed and receives help and information about the new location.

Replacement detatchment usually gives you the duty assignment. It's where you report to when you get to a new post to get your unit assignment.

No it doesn't replace troops. It is an improcessing section. You will usually stay there for a few days while they get you paperwork straightened out and send you to your designated unit. I can't tell you what the name is about but it has nothing to do with replacing soldiers.

A military unit that comes in to a place to relieve the previous unit. So that they can go back to there original duty station for a while.

replacement detacthment unit relieves the unit that has been their to go on special projects or missions I think
