I have read that extra calcium can help reduce the cramps. But I have increased his intake and he is still getting them. I am very concerned, are they just growing pains or should I call his pediatrician?

Growing pains give him some ibuprofen before he goes to bed and may be buy some bananas they are high in potassium this may help or make a shake and add the bananas in his drink. Leg cramps are cause by the bones growing at quick rate. This should only last about a week or so then they will go away.

When I was 8 years old, i remember waking up with a severe pain in my right leg. it was so severe that it hurt to even walk on it. My mom gave me a banana and after about an hour the pain started to diminish. i would, just in case, call his pediatrician just to make sure it isn't anything more serious. Sometimes a lack of potassium in one's diet can cause a person have leg cramps when laying down at night.

It's a bit early in his life, but rapid growth can often cause a syndrome known as Osgood Schlatter's. Causes terrific pain in the legs.
Cramping can also be because of an electrolyte imbalance, I would be giving him Pedialyte (found in any grocery) every night.
Yeah, a trip to the doctor might be a good idea, if the Pedialyte doesn't help.

Sounds to me like turning out to be pains. this is unquestionably situation-free around that age. I undergo in strategies my mom asserting that we had them each and every of the time. i could verify with your son's accepted practitioner. The accepted practitioner would have you ever provide him some motrin or tylenol as a soreness reliever. that's what my mom gave to us whilst we've been little. My daughter doesnt decide directly to stand on her legs whilst she is going with the aid of a develop spurt and if she does that's for a sprint at a time then she starts whining. this is my maximum suitable wager. solid success and that i'm hoping he gets to feeling greater proper.

Have him eat bananas (the potassium will help) and do leg stretches before bed.
