Because when they convert to a religion where everyone is equal and no one is above or under someone else, they begin losing a part of their society. Here is an example. Pretend you are a rich millionare with hundreds of maids. All of your maids are really poor. One of your maids quits her job and becomes a lawyer. Then pretty soon all of you maids become doctors or lawyers or rich people, and you have no one to do their dirty work.

I can only guess....

The caste system means you are born into whatever caste you are in, and there is no way out other than death. You are in this caste due to your past lives and mistakes made then. If you convert to Christianity, this does away with the entire caste system and makes everyone equal in the eyes of the God.....so thus it takes away the power of the higher caste... And we all knnow how religions react to loss of power....

Mm...i imagine no longer in hardship-free words hindus in India...anybody with an same faith will be very dissatisfied in the adventure that they stumbled on their associates convert to any diverse religions... Muslim will be dissatisfied if their mulim associates convert to the different faith, so will hindus or christians...

If you are not equal, and someone comes along and says you were created in the image of God. That has a way of changing the social dynamic. Don't you think so?

The same reason why christians become upset when other christians become athiests or gay.
