America's invasion of Iraq was disastrous and the Iraqi army did not have any new equipment since before 1990. The people did not want to fight. So it took The US 21days to topple Saddam. Of course later on America has 2500+ dead soldiers and over 25000 wounded.

With Iran it will be totally different as they have 10 times the army power of what Saddam had during 2003. And the people actually want to fight America.

But what is more important is that Iran controls Iraq. If Iran is attacked, it can mobilize the Iraqis to kill 100s, even 1000s of American soldiers in a few days.

Additionally, Iran can target all the American bases in Iraq and in the gulf with it's missiles. And if they use the same tactics as Hezbollah, then US AF will not be able to take the missiles out in time.

This not to mention the fact that Iran has specialized missiles that can take out most of the American warships in middle of the Persian gulf.( Hezbollah used some of these missiles to take out two of Israel's top war ships)

So I think thinks will be very bloody.

On other thing, if America attacks Iran, the oil will hit 100usd/barrel and the loses for the American economy will be in Billions.

Nuclear power and nuclear weapons are similar only in the fuel they use and the method by which energy is extracted from that fuel.. The mechanics of the two are vastly different. Why not let Iran use a highly efficient source of power rather than to continue propagation of the industrialized world's reliance on fossil fuels, a rapidly diminishing resource. When we start seeing deployable vehicles and no cooling towers, then it's time to answer that question.

However we do it, we should be prepared for all out war. If you thought September 11 was bad....or if you think we have it bad in Iraq.....just wait until the Shia and Sunni unite (for the first time in their history) against the US. Then, nuclear reactors with the POTENTIAL for nucelar weapon production (10 years down the road) will be the least of our concerns.

I think we should let Iran, Syria, etc., know, by either direct or indirect means, that we have "big bang and so-long" missiles aimed in their direction and that the moment they set one of theirs off, we intend to release ours.

We did that during the cold war and it produced good results. Maybe it worked so well with the Russians is because they are realistic people and not stone-heads like some of the middle-east rulers.

They'd be stupid to try. They know our retaliation would be absolutely devastating. I think they're just going to try to get away with stuff they shouldn't be able to, at least for now.

I don't consider myself a good judge of military tactics by any means, but if they did; I'd sure wish I could evacuate the only the innocent civilians and just blast the entire country off the face of the earth. But that is neither feasible, nor strategic. :)

They can't even refine the oil they have and have to import 40% of it fom India. I'm sure we can convince India to impose sanctions against Iran to prevent progressing toward such drastic destruction.

I think if we attack Iran we should be ready for tactical thermal nuclear warfare.

History tells us that real threats, such as the one posed now by Iran, are usually ignored. Until it's too late.

The same way we did with South Korea--invade a small country with no nukes and thirty year old weapons so we still feel big!
