Her ears have scabs on the tops of them from where she scratches. I have taken her to the vet and they say that she has food allergies. Every food that I give her makes it worse. I have tried everything. Please help me.

Same as LokiBuff - have the vet do a skin scrape to see what's actually going on.
If you still can't get a satisfactory diagnosis, there's no harm in getting a second opinion from a different vet. Check your local directory for an animal allergy specialist. You can also go on-line for your state's VMA (Veterinary Medical Association) and they should have listings for vets and their specialties.

Have you tried the Fish and Sweet Potato formula dog food? That seems to be the best for dogs since they tend not to have problems with those ingredients.
Best wishes for you and your girl!

I doubt you have truly tried everything. She may have a mite that is not showing on a microscope at the time of a skin scrape , also allot of vets do not do skin scrapes accurately. They need to scrape till it bleeds a bit, most only scrape off the surface. I start with mites because this is one of the most common places for mites to begin.

Second, food allergies are VERY hard to pin point. You may end up going thru hundreds (500+) of dollars till you find what she is allergic too. You have to use the "process of elimination" with these foods. Your vet can't tell you the procedure. Or If you want a "quicker fix" go to a board certified Doggie Dermatologist. Skin testing is expensive, but you may end up with a quicker answer. It may not always be the answer we want...but. Skin allergies are expensive, and can sometimes be controlled from anything like a 5$ prescription drug, to a cupboard full of products, in a combination that may only work for your dog. All I can say is good Luck! Don't give up...there is probably an answer some where. Change vets if your vet is out of options for you...some one has to be able to help you and your pup!!!!!

I have a blue and white pit bull who has the exact same issues. Shes allergic to everything under the sun and none of the medication has helped, not even the allergy shots the vet recommended. The only thing that I have found that prevents her from scratching herself bloody is one of those sonar disks for around her head. I know it sounds sort of mean and it looks really funny but it does keep her from scratching herself bloody. Take her to the pet store and measure her neck so that you get one that fits snug and try it out it should only cost about $20

Could be more than meets the eye...have the vet check for ear mites, and allergies....either of these can cause a dog to scratch...a lot.

Did they check for mange? Some mites are hard to diagnose and can cause itching issues with the ears. Also, in a majority of cases, mites are misdiagnosed as some sort of allergy. If it doesn't improve, talk to your vet specifically about mites.

What kind of food do u give to her? If you feed her with commercial food you shoud try natural food, just like meat and a little vegetables. My dogs don't like food such as pedigr... eukan...royal ca... and all that.. It depends on the way you feed her. It can be maybe the shampoo you use in the shower???
