I care about two things there:
1) the teacher keep their religious and political views to themselves
and
2) the teacher's qualifications.
I'd even hire a fundamentalist christian (not my favorite people in the world) if they were a good teacher and agreed to never impose their views on my child.

Only if that religion impacted the way they taught my child in a way that I didn't like.
Personally, I think teachers should do the job of teaching the subject matter, and not bring any religion, politics, or other personal subjects like these into the classroom unless they are teaching these subjects. If they are, then they should let parents know what things might be discussed.

I personally wouldn't care. However, I'm wondering what effect this would have on religion. I mean, atheists supposedly don't have any morals, so how could they be good teachers? Muslims supposedly all are terrorists, so how could they be good teachers? Satanists are, well, Satanists (which I've heard is bad) so how could they be good teachers?
Of course not all people of religion believe even one of these ideas, however, it would be interesting to see how many are okay with these people teaching their children, even though the whole group apparently does not have high enough morals. Just thinking out loud.

As long as they are not imparting values or beliefs didn't than my own in school, I wouldn't mind what religion the teacher was? If the teacher would tell my child that God doesn't exist and you're wasting your time in church, I would definitely have a problem.

No. They arent technically aloud to teach it, or even for that matter to say, so it wont matter, it should be a non-issue.
If however, I found out my childs teacher WAS talking of their own religion, no matter what it would be, I would bring it up to the school. If they cant teach God in school, they should also not be allowed to teach there is NO God in school.

Assuming I was planning on having children...it wouldn't matter to me as long as they weren't steering children toward their religion. A teacher in a public school (and that's where my kids would go!) should never influence their students toward their religion.
In a higher level setting like high school or college, it is ok to discuss it when asked, but never to push.

Nope, not even one bit. It would matter to me if that teacher had enough knowledge to teach my kid what he/she's supposed to teach him/her. It would matter if the teacher is able to communicate that knowledge in an effective way. It would matter that that teacher does respect my kid and does not abuse him/her in any possible way (emotional, physical, etc), but what religion the teacher follows I couldn't possibly care less about.

It would only matter to me if I was taking my child to a private Christian school. Since religion is not mentioned in public school I don't see that it would be a problem.

Not. However the only time I think it would bother me is if the teacher came straight out and said "don't ask me anything about holidays because I don't celebrate". It would have to be a remark like that to bother me.

yes if its a christian i would have a problem with it since they are the only ones trying to force it onto others anyways. but if they are nice enough to keep there religious bigotiry at home i respect them for that too. if the teacher was a pagan or atheist i wouldnt have a problem with it either. i say this because of the ignorant old crone named grandma susie who thinks she is right when she is dead wrong
