I think that internet dating has come a long way since it was a forum for desperate people or people looking to hook up for one night stands. While there is still plenty of that out there, there are also alot of good people just honestly searching. After I moved to a new state, I didn't know anyone and used internet dating as a means to meet people.
I also didn't have to buy groceries for months due to all the dinners I went out for. In the end, I met a awesome guy and we have been exclusivly dating. Things are great and continue to get better. It's a really good way to meet someone your compatiable with.
ONe piece of advice - meet people right away, don't talk for a month, then set up the meeting - people are ALOT different in person. Also - be careful when meeting men - keep it public and let a girlfriend know where your meeting at and have a check in time to call so that they know you still alive....

I met my wife this way, so yes i feverently believe in it.
The trick of the question is that you get out of it what you put into. My wife and i spent a good amount of time exchanging e-mails getting to know each other and then talked on the phone. Before we ever met, we got know each other quite well.
If you just use internet dating to meet and then go date people, you are going to get random people that won't be the one to make you happen.
I think internet dating could be a great tool for people if the use it as such. Especially for people who don't like the crap at bars and dance clubs.

My husband and I met online... we lived in different states and eventually started talking on the phone then decided to meet. We were both completely honest with one another about our looks, like, dislikes, etc. By the time we met, neither one of us were nervous because it seems like we had all the "preliminary" date questions out of the way. I can honestly say that we really did start out as friends. Even when we met we weren't really looking for a relationship. That was 8 years and 1 child ago!
I think it's completely possible to find someone online as long as both people are open, honest and content with being real. I wouldn't take anything seriously tho' until you meet someone face to face. Too many people online have created an alter ego for themselves on the net.

I met my husband that way too, but I would never ever do it again. It was too much trouble. It's hard because we lived too far apart. I don't believe in it any more, even if we spilt up I wouldn't do it. He says he met like five women that way so I kind of feel like I'm part of a trend of his. Whereas I never met anyone online before and I always think it's so lucky that it happened. I don't think he does.
So, no. I don't think it's a good idea. I know I'm a contradiction but that's still how I feel.

Well..it's not as bad as you think it is if you first become acquainted with the other person then when you meet you'll have things to talk about, to break the ice, etc. I know a few couples that met this way and are still married and happy. You just have to have an open mind about the whole thing and take a risk.

If it works, then why not. It is getting more and more difficult to meet decent people, so it is just another form of a dating agency. Admitedly I havent used either, but good lick to any who will

I believe in it. You get to know somewhat of what a person is like and what they want before you ever speak to them. It makes things a bit simpler and when it comes to women, we could all use some simplification.
