He is going to be stationed at Ft. Wainwright, Alaska and I am almost positive he will have to go overseas but I want to know if we will have time to look for housing when we get there.

he is infantry and my concern is that I am pregnant and have a 2 year old. I would hope that I wouldnt have to move all by myself. His AIT is with his basic.

Yes, it's very possible he'll deploy right after he gets there. They might allow him to take leave to get you situated, but if the unit's already gone, he'll be gone not long after arriving. As soon as he arrives, he'll be able to put your name on the housing list and you should get info now about moving up there so you can be prepared. (There's a waiting list at most posts for post housing.) Be prepared to get your household goods and stuff with him already gone. The best thing for him to do would be to apply for leave in conjunction with the move (PCS leave). That way, he can take 30 days or however much he wants to move you up there and find a place to live before signing into the unit. That's what we've done on each of our moves. Then once he signs in to his unit, you'll be situated with a place to move and he can deploy without worries.
Good luck!!

It depends on his job, and what unit he is assigned to after AIT. If he is part of a combat unit, and that unit is deploying (or already deployed) he will go with them.
Don't worry about housing. The Army really does provide for its own. You should receive family housing within a day or so of arriving at his duty station. It probably won't be a house you would normally choose to live in (and it definitely won't be like the ones they showed you at the recruiting office) but it will be a house.

Yes, it could happen. Honestly, there is no way for you to know for sure what that possibility is. With all that is going on overseas since 9-11, my hubby went from deploying for 3 months every 2 years to deploying 4 to 6 months at a time every year.
Please, give him your support, don't whine or complain, reassure him that you will miss him but also that you will be okay, because, really, you will be okay. :-)
Have him sign a power of attorney (be specific in it) so you can handle the housing issues if he does deploy.

Yes it's possible. If your main concern when you get there is housing, tell him to request some of his leave time before reporting to Wainwright. If he's approved you can then search for housing without worrying about him being deployed.

LOL!!!!! No. He can get deployed as quickly as he get his permenant accountability station. he will visit BCT, then he will visit his MOS (interest coaching). in the process the MOS coaching he will checklist his Dream Sheet alternatives (in a appropriate international the place he might prefer to circulate- do no longer plan on surely getting any of his options). Then he will take delivery of his first accountability station formerly he graduates MOS college. observing the cycle of deployments he might desire to be deployed the month he gets there or a twelve months later. hazard is he gets a minimum of 6 months formerly he's deployed.

of course you will. And if he's sent overseas, they might even jump up and help you even more, just because of his deployment. As for him being stationed as soon as he finishes Basic? I wouldn't think so, I would think they'd want him to finish his AIT, unless his MOS is one where he has One Station Unit Training, or OSUT. In that case, he might get deployed after basic.

It's always a possibility, you should be ready to take the rains and keep this in mind that you might have to look for housing yourself. You need to prepare yourself now, don't let it sneak up on you or you can end up completely lost. Good luck and I hope he is able to be around for a while, and if he happens to leave I wish you both all the luck in the world and may he be safe always:)

You said Fort Wainwright so I'm assuming Army. He has to complete AIT after basic. Depends on his specialty.

When you're a soldier, it's always possible. You might have to go on a list to get housing and live on the economy. To tell you the truth, I don't know how they do it in Alaska. Call them. I've been in for 24 years now. You'll be fine.
