the reason I am curious is that I have heard a lot of different opinions from people I know, friends etc. If you like the breed in general, why? And if not, why? Have you had any bad or good experiences with Rottweilers?
I am asking out of curiosity, I have 2- a mother and a son.

We have had four. Gretchen, Osso, Princess and now Max. They were and are fabulous. But they are big, powerful dogs and can be dominate. They need obedience training and a firm hand. I don't mean "beat" them but they must know their place or they can take over. And unfortunately, if something happens with a Rottie it is bad because they are so big and strong. I take the responsibility of raising and keeping a Rottie very seriously. They scare people, as any good guard dog will. And they have been guard dogs hundreds of years longer than they have been pets.

Max has been the most challenging and turned out the best. As a puppy, he was a terror. I got a private trainer at 12 weeks. And he was one of the most resistant to training they had ever seen. But he is extremely smart. When he is outside he follows me around the house as I walk around the inside. I was in the bathroom one time and heard him bugging outside the window. I told him to go find his toy. Like go play on the freeway, kid, you are bothering me. A few minutes later I heard the ball bouncing on the cement. He couldn't even see me and I only told him twice. I always say if he had thumbs I would be afraid of him. He also plays hide and seek with his toys. I hide his toy and then tell him to find it and that is good for 10-15 minutes of peace and quiet if I am lucky!

Max is a great friend. But he would not be for everyone. He needs alot of attention and firmness. Rotties just want to be with their humans!!

I show AKC Rottweilers in Conformation, Obediance, Therpay and now Rally and considering Schutzhund. I have two myself. A male and female. (no, they aren't going to have puppies, the female is spayed) I am 16 years old and a Jr. Handler. I have only been in the breed for about 4 years, but 8 years prior to getting one did TONS of research on the temperment, standard, ext.
I love the breed for its curage and determined personality. Any dog can be aggressive, its all how they are raised. Rotties are just more popwerful than some breeds. I haven't had any health problems with my two, coarse, they are only 4 years old and 1 year old.
I have also trainied and worked with my other breeds including Dobermans, Goldens, and Mastiffs. I found the Rottweiler to be the eagerist to work and please. Though, some can be stubborn, but that makes training more challenging and fun. But it really depends on the dog.
My male is my shadow. I do nothing without him. He is the biggest momma's boy i have ever seen. He loves everyone.
Yet, another thing i love about the breed is the versitaly. They can do pretty much anything you ask of them. Whether it is to find a lost person or protect you from an intruder. I take my dogs to old folk homes to visit (they love it) but yet, I know if anyone where to hurt me they would be there to stop them. I trust my life with my dogs. It is a nice feeling that as young as i am and female, knowing that most people aren't going to mess with you.
I love the breed and could go on and on about them.
Its all in the breeding and understanding of the breed. Bred correctly, the Rottweiler is a balanced and loving comapanion.
But if anyone is considering getting one, do you research on breeders and the breed. And know that some of them have a mind of there own and can get a little pushy.

Rottweilers would be surprising with babies yet as with all breed it relies upon on the guy dogs! in the event that they're nicely socialised, from an excellent breeder and are proper experienced then i think of they could be super in case you had young babies. they seem to be a greater domineering breed so if that's your first dogs i does no longer advise a Rottweiler in all honesty as i think of they seem to be a breed which may well be perplexing for a generic time proprietor. on the internet you would be waiting to locate a solid record of inquiries to ask any breeder to ascertain they're respected, solid and nicely intentioned. edit @ Kevin Connor- unquestionably no dogs locks their jaws!

I love rottweilers! I had two as a kid when i was growing up, and they were always so loving and playful. The only really bad habbit they had was chasing cars. Other than that, they were perfect dogs. I've heard people say they are mean, but I never saw a mean side of either of my dogs.

I've had several and the only problems I ever had was health related. Skin problems and hip dysplasia (SP?)

Behavorially-mine were wonderful. Very caring and gentle around children and other pets. It really depends on how they were raised. I have pitbulls too and love them as much as any other breed, including my Rotties. I liked that they were protective over anyone they considered family and seemed very intuitive about 'bad' people. I never worried being home alone with them around.

My stepson and his wife have two (2) Rotweilers(sp?), father and son, and they are the biggest, most playful and friendly things I could imagine, and they keep them indoors. They're experience with those two have made me a fan of Rottweilers(sp?). As a matter of fact, when they went to buy the son, I was ready to snatch him up for my own if they didn't, but I left it to them for first choice since they are the ones who bought the father from the same owners, and they took us with them as they tried to decide whether to buy the son, which they did. They seem very versatile as a breed and I'll consider getting one to replace any of the ones we have out here at our country home as they die off from old age. Thanks for reminding me about them. God Bless you.

They are wonderful dogs! My husband had one years ago. I've dealt with many of them at work. One of my coworkers had one that was one of the nicest dogs I've ever met.

The only really bad one I ever met was a guard dog for a car dealership. He was trained originally to be a guard dog at a prison. They used to keep moving him around to different areas of the prison so he wouldn't get used to the same people/prisoners in there. There were only two people who could handle him without sedation. As you can see, his aggression was man made. He certainly wasn't born that way.

Ditto with Loki...I love them. They need socializing and training just as any other dog does, especially because they can get pretty gosh darn big! The only problems I have with a Rott is their tendency to get Cancer. I have a Rott mix, and a pitt. I know what you mean with the mixed opinions, unfortunately.

I hardly spend time around any dogs except for a golden retriever, being allergic to most dogs, but I love all dogs. I like rottweilers because they are dogs. Their colors are my favorite, and I like their cuteness.
