If you've ever had a dog you'd understand. Most cats are just too independant.
Top Ten Reasons Why Dogs Are Better Pets Than Cats
1. Dogs will tilt their heads and try to understand every word you say. Cats will ignore you and take a nap.
2. Cats look silly on a leash.
3. When you come home from work, your dog will be happy and lick your face. Cats will still be mad at you for leaving in the first place.
4. Dogs will give you unconditional love until the day they die. Cats will make you pay for every mistake you've ever made since the day you were born.
5. A dog knows when you're sad. And he'll try to comfort you. Cats don't care how you feel, as long as you remember where the can opener is.
6. Dogs will bring you your slippers. Cats will drop a dead mouse in your slippers.
7. When you take them for a ride, dogs will sit on the seat next to you. Cats have to have their own private basket, or they won't go at all.
8. Dogs will come when you call them. And they'll be happy. Cats will have someone take a message and get back to you.
9. Dogs will play fetch with you all day long. The only thing cats will play with all day long are small rodents or bugs, preferably ones that look like they're in pain.
10. Dogs will wake you up if the house is on fire. Cats will quietly sneak out the back door.

They're not evil - just devious.
Long, long ago, in a land far, far away, cats were considered sacred and worshiped by men. Mankind has all but forgotten this. Cats, however, have not.
(not entirely original)
To me, a household without a resident cat is incomplete. I grew up from infancy with cats around me. I can't imagine living without my cat purring me to sleep with a lullaby.
Cats are my favourite animal too, soft as silk, clean, low maintenance, they don't have BO and smell like a wet dog, and they are probably the most affectionate kind of pet one can have.
Bonus - They come automatically programmed to be housebroken in minutes.
I wish some scientist would discover the gene that makes cats housebroken automatically and splice that blasted gene into dogs! He would get my vote for the Nobel Prize in housebreaking.

I find that a lot of people dislike cats simply because their parents did and so on(some of them never even had a cat). I have multiple cats and each one has their own distinct personality, so for one to say they are evil and self centered is a good indication that they've either had a bad experience or are descendants of superstitious fools. Also,co-depend ant, control freaks(dog lovers) and materialistic people do not do well with cats...I'm sure you understand why. I love cats. I love their Independence, curiosity and freedom.
Don't get me wrong, I love dogs as well.
Check out a book called "The Mysterious Magical Cat" by D.J. Conway. It's very interesting and may help you understand your question.

I have both dogs and cats.. and I agree with you on the cat side, but I have to say that dogs give you love and attention in a way that cats can never do - and vice versa - each of their own way of expressing it. My cat, Mary, will come up on me in the evening and sit and suckle my finger - she gives me kisses and meows at me each morning and when i come home.. aside from that, I do not see much of her.
now, my dogs! They are always there - dedicated, playful and one of them even knows when I am not well, and sits by me diligently till I feel better, or have fallen asleep.
I do not believe cats are better than dogs, or dogs are better than cats - it is just what is best for you.
ps.. to be honest, my cat has made more damage to my house and furniture than my dogs ever have. I also love getting outside to walk my dogs.. without that, I will never have met my neighbours or the amazing people I have met at the off-leash dog areas. There are pros and cons for both. Just be happy that you have a great couple of loveable kittens and ignore the choices and preferences of others...

Hi, I totally agree!! Growing up, there was always at least 1 Labrador dog in the house, but I kind of fell into adopting a kitten when I spent a number of years living in the Middle East, where all ex-pats seemed to take in at least one cat. [Horrendous conditions for animals out there], On returning home to Scotland, took in all the waifs & stray cats, and now wouldn't be without one. They constantly intrigue me, they're so independent, and yet so loving. How DO you get a cat to sleep in one of those little beds?, one of mine sleeps on a dressing table stool, and the other sleeps on top of a wall unit in the kitchen. My brothers won't visit anymore, as they always complain about getting cat hair on
their trousers. I don't care, and I must be honest, if they ever do visit, I secretly gloat when I wave goodbye, and see them walking away unaware that their bums are covered in the stuff! 'See Ya, Take Care, Drop in Anytime, Tee Hee'.

People who think that have never had a cat. Once you have one you realize how special they are. I just got my first cat about a year and a half ago because I walked by a rescue center in a big chain pet store and couldn't leave her. I feel so lucky to have found her.

cats are not pets and they are so stupid. I don't know a cat where i can call it and it will come over to me, when people come over that the cat will run and hide. If I throw a ball the cat looks at it like it doesn't know what it is. cats shed hair all over the place like dogs. you cannot take a cat out on a leash for a walk. they claw everything up. they smell because nobody gives them a bath. any animal that can't go to the bathroom outside and needs a litter box dirty. they have bad tempers and hiss when they don't want you to bother them.

I agree, I too have two kitties, I think people are intimadated by cats, people like to see "animals" as lower beings, but cats have a lot of dignity and are independent and people don't like that sometimes a cat can take you or leave you. They want their animal to fawn all over them 24/7 may I add though my two are VERY loyal, they follow me from room to room, where ever I go they go, they sleep with me, and are always underfoot, I think people need to learn to interact better with cats and learn to understand them first then they will like them.

I think people like to be needed. Dogs and many other pets require tons of attention and people love to give it. cats are almost too smart for people. they are independent beautiful animals that take care of themselves and like it that way. they show affection on their terms and their terms only. you cant force a cat to do much. People sometimes have a hard time feeling a connection. But i agree with you cats are amazing animals and th effort to bring one in as a family member is well worth it, just ask my four babies.(trooper, baxter, daisy, and dice) theyre great pets
