The tenets of Christianity when properly taught and administered by the Church will never be out of touch with people. The Scripture says that we are not to "forsake the assembling of yourselves together as the manner of some is", meaning that church as an institution is still relevant to our society. What is so bothersome to some people is the way that church dogma has been run into the ground by sects whose clergy abuse children, whose overzealous teachings punish people instead of admonishing them and etc. When the Word is "spiritually given and spiritually discerned", there is a relevancy that the clergy embraces to help people understand the Word better and grow in their relationship with God. Besides, the fault doesn't lie entirely with the Church. In Revelation the Scripture says that In the endtime, "evil men and seducers would wax worse and worse" meaning that there would be more evil influences out there to draw people away from church, more apathy and indifference toward the ministry in general because of the failings of a few and etc....

Perhaps some,
But many have very strong youth and young adult programs. In high school it seemed like almost every Saturday night I was at a church sponsered dance having a great time. I loved being able to dance my little heart out without having to worry about some weird stranger trying to grind up on me. I guess I wasn't alone in that because I remember lots of kids from school that weren't even members of my church coming all the time.
You are right, there are many issues (of morality) that we face today, that simply didn't exist 50+ years ago. Religions should be able to talk about these things regularly.

Yes, but it's not completely irrelevant. I think a lot of churches are out of touch with culture, but some aren't. On the flip side, a lot of churches just don't support people the way they should which means they're not doing what they should be doing - being supportive and loving.

churches are out of touch with reality and therefor irrelevant in society at any time period
churches have also been out of touch with human nature since the dawn of time and as a result the only time they were relevant to the culture was when they controlled it, and that time is passing gradually

No, church is necessary for the support that is needed for a true Christian walk.
HEBREWS 10:23-25
23 Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; for he is faithful that promised;
24 and let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works:
25 not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.

not irrelevant human nature has not changes and mans basic need of redemtion has not changed
on the other hand in South Africa here churches too the queue more from society... where society accepted apartheid for example... the churches sometimes leaned more in favor of apartheid for a time... taking your sourse of truth from societal trends would really make the church irrelevant
so trying to be relevant and negotiating away truth in favor of whats popular can be a big mistake... the church should be conservative in terms of conserving truth

Yes absolutely. The only other people they can reach is children under 5 who still believe in Santa Claus. That is a fairytale that makes more sense than the nonsense the religious people are pedaling.

I agree, most churches today are irrelevant. The congregations hide in their air conditioned buildings, singing their songs, listening to one person tell them what HE thinks the Bible says, and then they go home. Not many churches want to deal with child abuse, drug/alchohol addiction, homelessness, poverty, etc. They only see these things in the abstract. I think home churches are the future with no ties to the old "corporations".
