A question to all the Christians out there: what exactly did Jesus give up, allowing himself to be crucified? He was already in his thirties when he died; in some Bronze Age backwater town he might have expected to live another, what -- fifteen years? Thirty, at the outside? And in exchange, he gets to RULE, in PARADISE, FOREVER?!?! Where's the sacrifice? Where's the loss -- particularly when he comes back to life three days later anyway?

The story of the crucificion only works as a noble sacrifice if this life is the only one we get; yet Jesus is so compliant and allows himself to be crucified PRECISELY because he knows it doesn't really "count" anyway....

We are to believe that Jesus dying on the cross fulfilled the requirements of a blood sacrifice.

There are a number of requirements for a sacrifice to be valid or it is completely disqualified and will be an abomination to G-d. These requirements are as follows:

1. The sin offering must be brought forth by the person seeking atonement, and slaughtered either by the sinner or by the priest.
2. Death must be caused by a sharp, perfect blade cutting across the neck, resulting in blood loss and swift death.
3. The offering must be physically unblemished.
4. In the case of mammal offerings (bulls, lambs, etc.) the offering must be less than one year old.
5. In the case of mammal offerings, the mammal must have cloven hooves and chew cud.
6. The sacrifice must be brought at the Temple
7. The sacrifice must have its blood taken by a priest and sprinkled on the altar.
8. The sacrifice must be salted.

Since Jesus did not fulfill even one of the eight precepts listed above, it's clear that his death could not be the atoning sacrifice Christians claim it is.

Doesn't "really count"? You are WAY off.

God WILL not be in the presence of sin. He requires a perfect blood sacrifice for our sins to be "washed away". Before Christ, man had to use perfect animal sacrifices (no blemishes, etc). Then, he sent his son, Jesus. Jesus lived a blameless, sinless life because this sacrifice HAD to be sinless, perfect. Jesus takes every sin past, present, future upon himself when sacrificed on the cross. All we have to do is BELIEVE. Being crucified is still considered the most painful and gruesome death...what a sacrifice indeed. Praise God for the salvation we have in his "sacrifice"...

Prayer and love to you...

The loss is all yours, my friend... I can't make you believe, and I will not try.. The ressurection is our hope, if Christ would have stayed dead, the whole eternal life would be just a myth... His sacrifice is paying the way.. But how can we understand what's it like to get your hands in the filth, when we're already in it?
Here's some thought for you. Buy a very expensive shirt. Ralph Lauren or something... then open the hood of your car and wipe off the oil container with it. That's sacrifice you can understand.

The sacrifice that Jesus Christ made was his seperation from the Heavenly Father God. He could have chosen a number of different option but if he did not make this sacrifice of his earthly body then we as Christians would not be able to receive the Grace that he showed to us that day. We would have been eternally damned to hell. With no way of repentance.

No, no really, remember the animal scarifies in the old testament, the person offering the sacrifice ate it for dinner on the day of the sacrifice. Part went to the priest, and part, the internals usually were left to burn in the fire. So the sacrifice was the blood spilled not the whole animal.

You must see His sacrifice of His Body in replacement to the Jewish sacrifices of the Old Covenant. From Cain and Abel, Noah, Abraham, Moses, King David sacrifice was an imperfect part of worship. God the Father through His Son perfected once for all the rite of sacrifice.

Lets see, he took ALL sin upon himself, he lost his human life, was tortured for it, suffered a painful death. God gave his only son, his only child so to speak, JUST to be killed, so all the rest of us sinners could spend eternity with him. Lets see, he gave his life, the greatest sacrifice one can make for another, and that to you seems like nothing? Wow, how many times have you been flogged, given up by your father to save others, crucified, had that sacrifice rejected? Was it easy? He did something noone else would ever be able to do.

Jesus did not take anything back. He was at once a man and the son of God. And yes, he did rise to the kingdom of heaven, which is the promise given to all people. This is why one has faith. If you want hard evidence of Jesus Christ's divinity, unfortunately, you have to wait until after you die. Untilthen, either continue on your spiritual journey by reading scripture, asking tough questions like the one you just asked, or talking to others whom opinions you respect or seek. You do ask valid questions, and I am not enough of a religious scholar to take on all of the points you raise, but I have my faith, and it is based on a very spiritual experience. I hope this helps you in some small way.

Some things can't really be taken back. You can't just take back the pain and humiliation that crucifixion causes. Especially when he was the one person on Earth that was truly blameless. And ruling in Paradise wasn't his reward, for that matter. He was with the Father since the beginning and was going to rule there anyhow. So he, personally, didn't gain anything from being publically tortured and executed.

Knowing all that he knew about sin and the fall of mankind He gave up equality with God to sojourn here among the poor and allowed Himself to be treated as a child and an adolescent and later a teacher. Then He took on all the sins of mankind past present and future(yours included, even your blasphemy of Him) and bore them to the cross. He entered Hell itself fought the evil one and took the keys of Death and hell from Him.

He deserves to rule in paradise forever.
