BECAUSE NO MAN IS EVER GOOD ENOUGH FOR HIS BABY GIRL

Boyfriends usually have more of a problem than husbands.

Many fathers respect a good husband, but a boyfriend or a lousy husband can end up being "bad" for the daughter and that would make any loving dad sad.

Its an instinctual inclination for fathers to dislike their daughter’s boyfriend or husband. It has been engrained in fathers for centuries that they are the protectors of the family. It is this position that gives them a sense of identity and purpose. Since, traditionally, the girls in the family are considered the most defenseless, it makes sense that father’s will be more protective of them than any other member of the family, and as a result, be the least welcoming family member to a boyfriend or husband, who could potentially hurt their daughters.

Furthermore, even if the father sees that his daughter’s suitor is honorable, he still is reticent in his acceptance of a new male family member in the household, because the new boyfriend or husband can potentially relegate the father to obsolesce. From the father’s perspective, he is no longer needed as the sole protector in his household, or his daughter, if a stronger more youthful male enters her life. So in many cases, were the boyfriend is ostensibly upstanding, it comes down to plain jealousy.

I'm no shrink but dads are usually a daughter's 1st love (not sexually, okay, don't freak). My dad was my best friend and comfort until I was about 12. Your dad, most likely unknowingly, is challenging them. I honestly think dads want the pre-adolescent admiration and love from their daughters forever. Ask your husband or boyfriend to be the "bigger" man and not rise to your dad's challenge. It will mellow over the years.

If you are young under 21 your father is just looking out for your best interests. If you are over 21 it is not unusual for a father to think that no one is good enough for their daughter. If your significant other is kind and good to you and treats your family with respect dad shouldn't have any problem. Parents can sense things however and it would not hurt to hear what they have to say.

why do you think you speak for the world? you mean why does your dad ..etc..? or a dad that you know..etc..? To generalize it it to "dads" as in "all dads" just shows your lack of ... well, a certain something. We'll leave it at that. And by the way, it's dads, not dad's....the former is a plural, the latter is a possessive. And the one is not the same as the other, just like the dad that you know is not the same as, for example, the dad that I know.

Father's have been there and they can usually read another man. I know how I am, and I would not want my daughter to have a boyfriend like I use to be when I was younger.

Because your daddy was your first love, and he was the first man to love you, thats a very strong connection.. and men are not as sensible as women for the most part....so He feels like he's losing his baby.. just reassure him that he will always be your first love and things should get better ..it's just a case of male macho syndrome.. you know , everything is a competion!
also they might know how they were at that age and sometimes they are right. my daddy was a couple of times

Because no guy is ever going to be good enough, in a dad's eyes, for his daughter.

Because he knows what he was thinking about when he was dating someone your age. It probably says a lot about your dad's character or a possible lack of character. In the end I'm sure it's b/c he wants the best for you.

My dad loves my fiance. It may be because after 2 unplanned pregnancies, my fiance's still here. He never treats me bad and has ALWAYS treated me like a queen. I guess dad's like men that are good enough for their daughters.
