Let me ask you something. Say you found a girl, slept with her, then she started sleeping with other people or left you. Would you be upset? If so, then that is your answer right there why third parties and breakups aren't supposed to happen after you've had sex.

I'd say that most women are very aware of this, for the simple reason that sex can end up being a lot more than 20 minutes of time spent with another person. They can get pregnant (even if they use contraceptives. But both sexes get upset about those third parties and breakups. So that can't be the whole story.

Now, some people think about this and realize that a situation without that stuff is not going to happen by accident. They've got to be proactive.

So, what they do is take total responsibility for their actions and decisions - and one of those decisions is to put their partner first (as in, higher priority than anyone on this planet, including Mom and Dad). And the next one is to make a permanent commitment. In front of other people so they're accountable.

And if they do this, sure, they can't control their partner's behavior, but they spare themselves a lot of temptation and trouble, because they have chosen to focus instead on doing what they need to do to make the relationship good and lasting. And if, God forbid, their partner jumps ship, at least then they have a clear conscience.

And if anyone is saving themselves, this is usually what it boils down to.

The problem this not saving yourself, at least for a long term relationship, is you don't know how nasty the other person is. They could be full of disease. Just as a FYI, over 50% of people are expected to get an STD.

Many times, they won't tell the truth about their own sexual history and you could end up in a bad situation.

It's just not worth that.
