We have a new neighbor, and in our apartment complex the wall between our two master bedrooms is thin. I'm a really light sleeper, and she gets up early. The problem is, her alarm goes off, at it's loudest setting every morning at 4:00a.m. I wouldn't mind this, except for the fact that she hits snooze, so we hear the alarm constantly for the next hour!!(EVERY WEEKDAY) We have an infant in our bedroom, and it actually wakes him up as well. I can't stand it anymore. I feel like i have no right to say anything, yet I want to. What would you do?
I have talked to her casually a couple of times, but I really don't know her well, and don't want to cause a problem.

You can't change anything if you aren't willing to ask for what you want. Practice a few approaches with your friends and then give the most successful one a try on your neighbor. Maybe start with an invite for some tea and cookies, get to know her, and work your way into mentioning how you are trying to help your infant sleep the whole night through and her alarm is hindering that effort.

If you aren't willing to talk to her, perhaps you could hang a tapestry on the adjoining wall to muffle the sound. Good luck!

Ah, the downfalls of living in an apartment! Build up your credit, try to buy your first house. In the mean time, you will most likely just have to put up with all you not so wonderful neighboors. Sure you could go talk to her. Why not, it is worth a try. Nicely tell her that her alarm is waking your infant when the alarm goes off(hopefully she will feel bad for waking a baby, and thus try not hit snooze). Just because you want to address the situation doesn't mean a problem will occur, just be extremely nice about it. Good luck, and hopefully you can own your first house soon.

Maybe she has her alarm clock on the wall directly behind yours. In that case, explain to her that your infant sleeps in your bedroom with you and her alarm wakes the baby and you up, and it's making everyone in your house miserable. Ask her if it's possible for her to move the alarm to the other side of the room. In that case, you might still hear it, but it would be somewhat muted.

If this woman has a heart and knows what it's like to have an infant, she'll try to accommodate you.

If not, call the leasing office on her. Noise is noise, regardless if it's blaring music, your downstairs neighbor snoring his head off and keeping you awake (my next door neighbors actually have this problem...the lady who lives downstairs from them snores so loud it either keeps them awake, or wakes them from a sound sleep), you should call and file a noise complaint.

Happy Birthday!

You could do two things, first I don't think it's rude if you ask her to turn it down or to turn it down after she hits snooze once. Tell them that it does wake both you and your sleeping child.
A second option would be to ask the landlord to say something. He could say that neighbors have been complaining about the noise. I'm not sure how your building is set up, but this could then be the person on either side of her or above and below her, it won't point the blame on you.

first off HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

secondly - perhaps the first thing to do is to politely ask your neighbour something like 'does my baby crying wake you up at night?'

she can then say yes or not accordingly

then if she says yes you can say 'OK - because we can hear your alarm at 4am loud and clear too every morning - any chance of turning it down and limiting your snooze repeats?'

if she says no you can say -' wow that is amazing then because i can hear your alarm loud and clear every morning at 4am and so can the baby and wondered if you could hear us as clearly as that'

if the initial tone is slightly apologetic then she may not feel intimidated by you and is more likely to work with you in sorting that problem.

then if the problem isn't sorted or if she gets rude then would be the time to hand it over to the landlord - in approaching her first it gives you more room to maneuver than if you took it to your landlord first

Every time her alarm goes off bang on the wall with a bat or some other object that will make a lot of noise. If you do this EVERY time her alarm goes off, she'll eventually get the message.

I don't know where your bed is in relation to her room, but you can try moving your furniture further from that wall. You can also run a fan that will provide a bit of white noise to help drown out the clock. And if all else fails you can break in to her apartment and steal her clock, maybe the next one won't be so loud. Just kidding don't break in, I've heard that's illegal.

Honey, but you Do have the right to say something because her actions are affecting you and your baby. You have to speak to her and tell her what's going on and make it clear that she's bothering you. She could lower the alarm volume and be more considerate, at the very least.

Don't be afraid, doll, strand up for your rights! You're paying rent, too!

i'm glad you made it to 28. it's a miracle with that damned noise. it must be annoying.
i have an alarm that goes off at four o' clock and just keeps going till i manage to get out of the bed.
maybe you should wake your neibhor up in the morning; and me too, while you're at it. we can't miss work.
i think that would solve problems with all parties concerned.
