Good question. A question of morals...they were stealing. Any adult could have said something and should have. If I had been there I would have said, "Hey, you gonna pay for that?" A person might have to take a little personal ridicule and risk making a scene, but unless they really appeared dangerous, I'd say go ahead and at least expose them as the thieves the are.

People lie, cheat, and steal. This is how you become President. The manager probably thought, "Those kids know what they want, and how to get it. Those are a couple of go-getters." Then again, maybe he thought they had guns, and it was no use in getting shot over a couple of sodas. I think it was the first reason, cause if I worked at Burger King, I'd try my damnedest to get shot while on the job.

It's actually a matter of pennies, if that. Fast food companies collect a markup of around 5000% on fountain drinks. The cup that your drink comes in costs many times more than the ice and drink itself.
What those youngsters did was wrong, and they should have been stopped. Nonetheless, I can hardly blame the manager for not breaking away from his job and causing a disturbance in the middle of the store to stop a theft that would have cost him less than a nickel.

Some people have the attitude kids will be kids... A little teenage misbehavior is common enough. Unfortunately that usually means the kids will escalate their behavior to get attention.
It could also be that the manager knew the kids in question and might do something about it at a later time.

i used to work retail and i've always been told not to chase after the crooks or id be endangering myself. so, it's not about a matter of a few dollars, it's about his own life and safety. the manager did the right thing by not chasing the crooks, but the manager should've called the cops.

Not enough real men left in this world...
There are many examples like this that never used to be tolerated and seldom happened even a few short years ago.
World is truly going down in a handbasket

my daughters worked fast food through college so i can speak with experience. many times the manager is young and don't quite know how to handle such situations so they ignore it. also some people are repeat offenders and have acted in a manner that the mgr decides not to confront them. you are right that they should have paid.

Maybe they have some deal with the manager, like they work there and get free drinks or something.

sounds like he's had trouble with teenagers before... maybe he's figuring out what t do in the long term instead of causing possible trouble in the store
