Do you suppose the millions of men from India, Pakistan, West Africa, Burma, Malaysia, Aden, East Africa, South Africa, Guiana, and the West Indies would have given their lives if they had known that the nation for which they gave their lives would treat their descendants not as citizens of the Empire and Commonwealth, but as beggars at the door?
That citizens of empire and commonwealth gave so freely of their blood and treasure to the country that had occupied and exploited them is a mark of credit to the quality of the British occupiers, but also to the generosity of spirit of the colonial peoples.
