My son starts school soon and there they have childcare available for before and after school its going to cost me £20 a day and £25 a day in the school holidays. I've been told thats about right for my area but seems a bit much to me.

Shop around. Some childcare facilities will rip you off and make you feel guilty for balking at their rates. When I was working I was lucky enough to find a fulltime daycare in a woman's home $80 with meals and snacks. In my experience daycare centers are MORE expensive than a home daycare. Good luck finding something.

It sounds pretty close to my 5 year old son tuition for aftercare only. Yeah on Holidays it costs more too. This is in Florida.

I pay about $700 (US) a month for summer holiday, and $400 (US) for before and after school care. It seems comparable.

that sounds about right- besides shouldn't you be trying to skimp on something else like maybe treats or nights out instead of the cost of the care for your precious children?
