They're just being stiff necked and traditional. I find a lot of younger kids don't like singing old hymns and old people think rock music is satanic. People like things the way they were and don't like change. It's sad that their praises are hindered by personal preference.

Because they are only Christians because they were raised that way. In their time, though, there was even more persecution of those who do not believe in God than there is now, so they did not feel they could just not be Christians. They were taught that you just go to church, no questions asked. So now they 1.hate everything the church stands for and 2.still don't believe and 3. don't really care about your Christ songs but 4.feel like they have to keep living this Christian lie because that's what they were programmed from birth.
Or maybe they think Church should be more serious and traditional. Who's to say?

I imagine that the younger people aren't exactly thrilled to be singing "Sweet Hour of Prayer" or "Onward, Christian Soldiers," either.
Generational differences don't disappear at the church door. Some churches have more than one service to accommodate the particular tastes of the congregation. So long as everyone keeps coming, be grateful that no one's run out the church door screaming in artistic agony.

Some people like their praise music to be kept in the little box of tradition instead of opening up their hearts and minds to other spirit driven songs.
All legitimate songs of praise and worship to the Lord are acceptable in His sight, remember songs are sung in heaven, and I doubt that they're the average dull gospel songs.

A lot of the older people (not all) are set in their ways and are not comfortable with any kind of change. I go to a small church (growing) and we have our own band. Churches have to interest the kids or they will be lost.

Sounds like they equate change with "getting away from the way God meant things to be." They're just exercising their right to not participate in an activity of which they don't approve. As long as they're not trying to interfere with everyone else's enjoyment, I say let them be.

Old people are set in their ways. Sometimes it is not about worship it is about "mans traditions". The Spirit is quenched more often than not because the heart is not open to how He wants to move and in what way He wants to do it.

They're probably against contemporary music because it just doesn't seem like "church" to them.

Mathew 18:10 Take heed that ye despise not one of these little ones; for I say unto you, That in heaven their angels do always behold the face of my Father which is in heaven.
18:11 For the Son of man is come to save that which was lost.
Jesus said this.
We are more sinful than these little ones of chrsit.
Today in our churches what type of music is played, what type of words are used, what type of actions are done?
I am a one of the important man of God, I DO Not Sing, Nor do I take part in them ,
Our salvation through Christ who is also the word of God.
Read these verses from God, how to deal with your children!
Deuteronomy 6:1 Now these [are] the commandments, the statutes, and the judgments, which the LORD your God commanded to teach you, that ye might do [them] in the land whither ye go to possess it:
6:2 That thou mightest fear the LORD thy God, to keep all his statutes and his commandments, which I command thee, thou, and thy son, and thy son's son, all the days of thy life; and that thy days may be prolonged.
6:3 Hear therefore, O Israel, and observe to do [it]; that it may be well with thee, and that ye may increase mightily, as the LORD God of thy fathers hath promised thee, in the land that floweth with milk and honey.
6:4 Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God [is] one LORD:
6:5 And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.
6:6 And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart:
6:7 And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.
6:8 And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes.
6:9 And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates.
6:10 And it shall be, when the LORD thy God shall have brought thee into the land which he sware unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give thee great and goodly cities, which thou buildedst not,
let them grow in the teachings of God.
Amen.

oh sorry i misunderstood your question, you are talking about the poeple in the church.
i will still agree that these older elders would love the word of God more than the hypocracy of the churches, people.
they know there are no songs written in the bible for us to necessarily humm for our salvation.
they have gounded themselves in the word of God, alone.
the Just shall live by faith.
God bless the saints. amen.
