all these answers are correct, but, in a game you may not even feel the "punch" of a hit. remember, there is a bit of adreniline (?spelling) going about your body and it has been known to block that minor pain!
this i know because of personal experiance, i once shot another player in the face (by accident and was truely mortified when i found out) and she (yes she) didnt even know about it until she was called out by the ref.
a barrel sleeve is used to cover the "real" barrel it there to keep from damageing the barrel

Really it only will leave a bruise if you are really tense and it does sting for about 5 seconds but after that your fine. a barrel sleeve is like a cover that protects your barrel and keeps stuff out of your marker.

Depends on the distance, but it can leave a nice welt. The sleeveencases the actual barrel.
