i wont marry a guy unless I've lived with him.

I want to make sure he can live with me, and I can live with him.

Marraige would be the ultimate best thing for a couple to do, but in today's society more and more couples are opting to live together before marraige. I think the biggest reason for this is to actually see would they be compatible married. You learn a persons quirks, likes, dislikes and see how they handle themselves. you can see how they do financially better together than alone. I have heard some compare it to test driving a car. Would you actually buy a car without driving it first? Not too many would.

I say if one is planning on living with someone, it is usually headed in the direction of marraige anyways, since most dont just "shack up". At the point in the relationship when a couple moves in together, they are starting to plan their future, whatever that may be.

The only troubles that arise would be if the relationship becomes one sided, with one person making all of the decisions, or one person paying all the bills. that is neither the way a true relationship is supposed to go- it is to be 50/50.

i have lived with my bf for the past 4 years (after dating a bit under a year). We are getting married in March of this next year. I dont think that living together was a bad thing because we have been able to go through things that married couples go through and were able to work them out without the drama of divorce or anything like that.

Marriage means commitment for a lifetime.

Living together means whatever feels good for however long then move on (most of the time). Disasters are created by living together. (no, marriage is not perfect either, just typically much more committed to by both partners).

If you're committed to each other and just living together then it is practically the same as marriage anyway (even in law in most jurisdictions).

Definitely being married. It's a big commitment and you can really start a life together and plan for the future. Living together is so temporary and makes it harder when you break up.

If you plan to live together, why not get married?? It doesn't make sense to me. People that live together but won't get married ("I don't need a piece of paper to prove my love") are just afraid of that piece of paper! If the license isn't such a big deal, then why not just get it???
