Section 76 of Doctrine and Covenants discusses the three Kingdoms mostly...
If you read Mormon Doctrine (by McConkie) it gives a good detail of spirit prison and spirit paradise where spirits wait for resurrection and judgement day.

Yes, I'm LDS.

After death, the spirit separates from the body and awaits judgement. As another poster mentioned, it's similar to what most Christians believe. There are different degrees of glory, as taught by Paul (see 1 Cor 15:41). Telestial is lowest, then Terrestrial, with Celestial being the highest glory where God lives.

See section 76 for more details. :-)

Mormons pretty much believe like other Christians do in that they believe that sometime after death that they will be judged for their actions while on Earth. Where they differ from the usually Christianity, however, is that they believe that there are "levels" of heaven...The Terrestial Kingdom (Lowest), The Telestial Kingdom (Middle), and the Celestial Kingdom (Highest). Each will be rewarded according to his or her own faith & actions. Achievement of different levels relies on whether or not the invidual completed certain critical requirements while on Earth.
