I meditate, exercise and limit caffeine to one or two servings a day, yet I feel as though my heart is racing and pounding in my throat several times a day for extended periods of time each time. I am taking Geodon 40mg/day, Topomax 25mg/day, and Cymbalta 66mg/day. Any help will be very much appreciated.

Try slow, deep even breathing. All the drugs you are taking may have bad side effects.

I have somewhat elevated blood pressure and take as little of the meds as possible. I find that deep breathing will drop my blood pressure by 40 points, both systolic and diastolic, within 2 minutes.

Also it has just been found that people with depression and anxiety suffer from restricted blood flow to their brain. That is something you may want to have your doctor check.

You might want to look into breath work. Learn different breathing techniques. Try breathing deeply in for 7 seconds then out 7 seconds. It calms you and slows the heart rate.

i have the same problem with my anxiety.

the best way to get my heart from pounding is to totally remove myself from the situation. get out of the house, visit friends, make sure you become completely distracted from that racing heart feeling. i normally have attacks late at night though, so leaving at that time isn't really "safe". it helps to have a friend that you can call and talk to at any hour...

it's so hard, and it feels like your heart rate will never stop climbing. good luck!

Could it be the medication that is causing the palpitations? I think you should speak with your Dr. to make sure they are not the cause. Once that has been cleared. Get checked for a heart murmur or even a faulty heart valve.

I had panic disorder.

What they say - it feels scary when your heart is racing, but they say nothing bad will happen. It helped me to know that nothing bad will happen. Panic attack is just a panic attack and it isn't health threatening.

Wishing you to overcome it.

Deep breathing techniques are great also. Plus, stay away from MSG!!! That stuff can cause your symptoms too; it has with me.

try a very vast open space, ... deep breath and see as far as possible, widen your horizon, feel as if the wind blow through you.... if there is no open space, try the top of skycrapper or just somewhere a bit higher(&save).......and smile,,,,,,
