Hi I'm African American and we've never spoken, so I am not offended by your question just disturbed by your thinking. I know exactly what you mean about the ask/axe thing. I have heard it many times over and it may have escaped my lips on more than one occasion, but that's just me. Ask yourself how many African American people you have met in your lifetime. Then ask yourself if that number is sufficient in making such generalizations. I think the axe thing comes into play as part of the southern dialect. When I'm hanging out with my peers or close family, we let our hair down and let our southernisms flow.
But when I'm at work in the courtroom or office, I promise you that it's "ask" all day long. Take care and have a good day. I don't think you're racist...just curious and in need of tact.

This is a misguided question based on a wrong assumption. 1000 years ago in England, the word was EITHER ascian (ask) or axian (aks). This variation is as old as English itself. Compare the words task and tax. They were originally the very same word with two pronunciations: tascian (task) or taxian (taks). In fact, the older pronunciation of "ask" is "aks". This was LONG before there were African-Americans

I pronounce perfectly well. I am well educated and I am offended you generalize the whole race as talking that way. You seriously need to travel outside your little town and meet educated African Americans such as myself.

I think that your question is down right stupid because, African Americans are not the only race that messes up some words that they say.. This comes from the heart because, I am an African American.. So please come up with another question.. Most of them are list tongue and they talk like that..
