Contrary to what another person said, white german shepherds CAN ABSOLUTELY be registered with the AKC, but they cannot compete in conformation shows. The white color is a disqualitification...this does not affect their registration, though. I think, originally, when the standard was written, white was a disqualification because many people believed that the color white would make it harder for the dog to do its job (herding).

Even though they are DQ's in the show ring they can compete in other AKC sanctioned events such as obedience and agility.

I just have to jump in here. If you want to pay less than 800.00 for a german shep. especially a white one you are going to end up paying a lot more later on in the dogs life. If not right away. I paid 1000.00 for mine because his bloodline is free of hip dysplasia for 6 generations. That means a lot if you want a dog in good health. I've been a vet tech for 25 years. I worked with an orthopedic surgeon for pets for 2. A huge percentage of our patients with hip dysplasia were GSD. They have lots of other problems as well. If you want to see some awesome white shepherds go to http://whiteshepherd.com/ That is where I got Aspen. He is 8 years old now and is a therapy dog. He weighs 100 pounds and it's all muscle. He is a giant ball of love. He is also very protective of our home and me if I feel threatened. Yet he can still be a therapy dog. Check it out please. Speak to some vets about it. Do a LOT of research with each breeder before you commit to buying one. I've had one all my life. Aspen is my 4th one. My last one lived to be 17. Good luck. Hope this helps. Oh yeah... they ship.

I agree that petfinder is a great place to look because those are dogs that need homes. There are so many dogs in the world that need homes, it would be a shame to buy a puppy from a breeder. ARe you sure it needs to be a white German Shepherd? I agree that German Shepherds are great dogs, but I can tell you a lot of great things about my precious, unique mutts as well!!!
Good luck w/ whatever dog you get!

i hve a white german shepher/mix. but i found him in the newspaper...have u tried the newspaper? there are many (i mean, MANY) breeds listed there, and i'm sure u would fine a white german shepherd. if u have no luck with that, go to petfinder.com. there's a good chance of finding one there. Ooor, u can just do a websearch on a local breeder in your area.

A white german shepherd cannot be AKC registered. Although they are nice dogs and "purebred" german sheps, pure white colour is an AKC disqualification.

check on Petsfinder.com. I know here in Georgia we have a white german sheperd rescue, so they may be a good resource also. They have many pure akc dogs.
