Pure ignorance.

"How dumb are you? Why won't you believe in the Greek Pantheon? You know it's the truth!"

Answer that and you will have answered your own question

As I stated in another answer, the bible states that the earth is the center of the universe and everything revloves around it, have you looked up with a telescope lately? Also God said let there be light , etc, etc, etc, thus the first day, but he does not create the greater light (the Sun) and the lesser light (the moon) to rule over the day and night until what the third day?, Science has proved with the flashlight and the basketball that we get our light from the sun, if the sun wasn't created until day 3 how can we have light on the first 2. Also, if you add the dates of the bible(and these dates are very specific), you discover that the bible states the human race, the earth, and the rest of the universe to be 6000 years old. the last ice age was 10 000 years ago, And do you understand what a light-year is?,if the universe is 6000 years old, why is the Andomida Galaxy (our closest neighbor) 2.3 MILLION light years away. There should not be anything beyond 6000 light years from earth, and I'm sorry to tell you but theres lots. Is this good enough to explain why the bible is a fantasy. I could sit here all night and give you billions of reasons why. And believe me when I say I am NOT in anyway shape or form denying the possibly that there may be a god or gods, but the bible come on. the only thing in that book that is of any value is the Ten commandments, they hold as true today, as they did yesterday.

Dumb is this question. How is a book written by humans "the truth"? I may believe in God, but I don't believe the bible is "the Truth" or "the Word of God". I believe it is a good read, if you have a month or so to commit. But its fiction/myth. It contains many mythological stories handed down from generation to generation, and finally written down decades or even years after the fact. I think that it is possible there was a Jesus, but he was just a common man, like everyone else. He may have been wise, but thats it! The bible is full of stories with lessons on how to be nice and be a good person, but it is not the word of God.

Question: Have you ever tried to play the telephone game? Has the message at the end EVER been the same as the one in the beginning? NO! And that is just among a few people in a matter of minutes. Now imagine how distorted these messages get over hundreds an thousands of years.

Also, the bible has been translated a number of times and revised a number of times (i.e. the King James version). Some definately gets lost in translation. And these revisers of the bible, certainly have their own self serving motives behind making changes.

Use your brain! That is why God gave it to you. Think for yourself. Use logic.

I am atheist:

1. "How dumb are you?"

We all are dumb eventually. Every brain eventually dies. All dead brains are dumb brains.

2. "Won't You Believe in the Bible?"

I have no problems with the Bible. I just don't believe in "God" or a sole "Creator" of the universe. I think the Bible does offer many interesting anecdotes on how a person can live a good life.

It's more a matter of words. As an atheist, I'm no different than "a believer." It's just the terms are slightly different.

God is to Christian, as the Universe is to an Atheist;
A sin to a Christian, is immorality to an Atheist.
A Christian may consider a "non-believer" a sinner or destined to go to hell; an atheist does not judge a person based on their religion.

3. "You know its the truth?"

The Bible does have certain truths. I find the "Golden Rule" a very truthful. Everytime I treat someone nicely, they act nicely to me in return.

I think you may want to learn that Golden Rule which the Bible you strongly seem to believe in talks about. Asking an atheist if he or she is dumb is not applying the Golden Rule is it?

Next time, to quote the Bible, "do one to others as you would do to thy self."

I believe in the Golden Rule despite being an Atheist and as a result, I will not say you are "dumb" for asking these questions. To say you are dumb is to treat you in a way I wouldn't want to be treated: judged without trial.

Why not consider practicing what has been preached to you?

You are so right! Every word of the Bible is the absolute literal truth! Especially, this part:

(Deuteronomy 21:10-14) "When you go out to war against your enemies and the Lord, your God, delivers them into your hand, so that you take captives, if you see a comely woman among the captives and become so enamored of her that you wish to have her as wife, you may take her home to your house. But before she may live there, she must shave her head and pair her nails and lay aside her captive's garb. After she has mourned her father and mother for a full month, you may have relations with her, and you shall be her husband and she shall be your wife. However, if later on you lose your liking for her, you shall give her her freedom, if she wishes it; but you shall not sell her or enslave her, since she was married to you under compulsion."

Explain to me again, why Christians don't follow this teaching? Oh, right. The Bible ISN'T the absolute literal truth.

What proof is there of the Bible's infallibility outside of the Bible itself? None. In fact, the Bible has made mistakes. Consider 1 Kings 7:23. "Also he made a molten sea of 10 cubits from brim to brim, round in compass, and 5 cubits the height thereof; and a line of 30 cubits did compass it round about." The number pi is defined as the ratio of the circumference of a circle to the diameter of the same circle. If you use the Bible, then pi is 3. If pi is 3, then a circle is a hexagon. (If you take a diagonal of a hexagon, then its length is 1/3 of the hexagon's perimeter.) Since a circle is not a hexagon, pi is not 3. (The actual value is approximately 3.14159 and never ends in its decimal representation.) I won't even start on the scientific impossibilities in the story of Noah's ark...

yeah umm im not an athiest but i dont beileve in the bible and stuff. soo.
im not dumb at all. im very smart.
i wont believe in the bible because it doesnt make sense since it's so contradictory to itself. and no, im pretty sure its not the truth.
just a little bit of advice: respect everyone. dont you think that if god didnt want atheists on the planet he could've made it that way? isnt part of going to church to learn how to be a good, moral person? respect is moral. well anyway, have a nice day.

I'm pretty far from being an Atheist but questions such as this do nothing more than give them a better reason to remain an Atheist.

If all Christians were as rude and obnoxious as this...I'D believe the religion is bogus, too.

If you really believed the Bible and were aware of the truths it taught, you'd never ask this question in such an uncharitable manner.

I *KNOW* nothing of the sort.

No one has ever provided me with proof positive that the bible is anything more than a written STORY of things that may or may NOT have happened many centuries ago. Who's to say that "the greatest STORY ever told" (as the Bible is fondly referred to) isn't just the oral tradition of a bunch of old, doddering, rambling, drunken, sun-sick lunatics?

Closed minded religious zealots such as yourself are far more dangerous (dare I say it? STUPID) than non-believers any day! Religious freaks are shown every single day to murder dozens of innocent people all in the name of one god or another.

BTW, I'm NOT an atheist, but I refuse to take the Bible at anything more than face value. I believe that it is a good TEACHING tool, one heck of a fun story even, but that a LOT of it's guidelines are more than a little outdated, and it is NOT the be-all-end-all of everything holy and good, bladdy-blah, etc, etc.

Truth, goodness and evil are all relative terminologies; your truth does not extend from the Bible, it is your opinion- so this makes your question questionable. Further your view of knowledge must be extremely limited, though I guess that is expectant from a person who uses 12% or less of thier brain.
So, one might say that the Bible is in fact the dumbed down version of creation and knowledge for people like you, it is just funny that you would be presumptuous enough to call another person dumb. : p
