There used to be a free 8 track version of protools

Many claim that Kristal is the best free multitrack software available, with ASIO and VST FX support (though it is limited to 16 tracks)

you're not going to get anthing you can use. You better just go get some good stuff at the music store. Pro Audio is good. Kontact is fantastic.
