It's a peeling white layer of dry skin. A good home remedy is get a small tub to soak your feet. Get some hot water, not too hot or you'll cook your own feet, lol. Place some laundry bleach in the water and soak them for at least thirty minutes per day. Do this every day for a week and it will get rid of your athletes foot. Don't forget to rinse the bleach off your feet too. Pat dry especially between your toes and use cotton socks for a while.

There really isn't a "home remedy", just a "home prevention". After you shower, take a papertowel or something and dry in-between the toes. Wash your feet often. Let your feet air out often. Moisture is the biggest "need" for the germs to grow.
What does it look like? It starts off by making your feet rough and ashy. Then, you will get a white layer of skin between your toes. When it is acute, the skin on the toes will crack and bleed.

Athletes foot usually appears as a cracking of the skin between the toes. I have found it responds most rapidly with application of Gold Bond lotion. One or two applications usually discharges it.

it looks like flaky skin and water blisters and itches like crazy. the best stuff is a clear liquid that most drugstores carry under their generic brands, usually comes in a about a 2 inch sqeeze bottle. similar to most eye drop containers. i can't think of the drug name.
