Nobody can become a Jew unless _my_ mother is a Jew?

Damn... that's a lot of responsibility for the old dear to bear. I'd better ring her up and let her know...

If your mother is a Jew you are automatically a Jew. Anyone else can convert and is accepted by the community. With so much intermarriage these days, there is an increase in conversion

No matter who your father is, be it Muslim, Buddhist or atheist, you cannot become a Jew unless you are born from a Jewish mother. Also if you have a Jewish father and your mother is not a Jew, then you can't be a Jew.

You can convert and will be as Jewish as any born Jew. But you must be persistent -- Rabbis traditionally turn people away three times. Before converting, you must study for at least a year; men must be circumcized.

All are welcome to study with Jews. Visit a Torah study group and attend adult educational classes. But mainly, read, read, read! You will love what you learn about Judaism after you "unlearn" what Christians have taught you.

Nope, that only counts for babies. According to the religion the child is only born jewish if their mother is. I heard a story that the tradition started back when jewish women were getting raped by romans and other bad men during war so since they weren't sure who the father was they based it on the mother. Not sure if it's true. If it is it's sick... but also interesting. (p.s. I am jewish)

well you can be a Jew if your father is to. anyway that not really true because there are a lot of religious things out there and people are becoming them or just changing their religion to something else. you no what you can be what ever religion you want you don't have to have proof to be it with the religions of your ancestors or parents if you want to be Jewish then the hell with it be Jewish.
