You will be able to find out the year of registration on a v5 registration logbook. If you find a nice car you will be able to ask the salesperson to see the logbook. The new reg's came in September 2001- this was the 51 plate and then in March 2002 the 02 plate was introduced. in September the 52 plate came in and so on. Hope this helps.

Originally as a suffix, August 1st 1976-July 31st 1977. Then in the more recent prefix system, 1st August 1997- 31st July 1998.

R reg was originally 1977 .....but was also released in 1997 .
Depends on what vehicle you are talking about ...ie a datsun or a nissan (same company but over the years have changed there name)

it could be 1997 or 1998. I have recently sold an rover coupe on an R plate and that was registered in 1998.
