In the New Testament Jesus says this all the time.
"I tell you the truth, I tell you the truth, really I do, you have to believe me."
I've always noticed that people who claim to be telling the truth all the time are usually the biggest liars.
Just like when someone says, "I'll be the best friend you ever had." It's pretty much guaranteed they are going to turn against you within a couple of months.
I've also heard people say "I am so NICE." Usually the most awful, fake people you could ever encounter.
So I wouldn't trust anyone who says, "I tell you the truth" all the time. That's the same technique that Snake Oil Salesmen used to use.

Jesus COULD HAVE LIED HAD HE CHOSE TO.

He had free will just like all humans.

Jesus lived a sinless life only because He had that close connection to His heavenly father that we need. He was in constant communication with His Father. Remember, He was born of an earthly human mother and thereby inherited Adams sinful nature. It was only by keeping his heart and mind steadfastly on His Father’s will that He was able to resist that nature and be sinless.

Humans lie because their heart is selfish, they do not care about the harm they inflict on others. They have not the love for mankind that Jesus had. He was willing to suffer horrible pain just to earn the right to save us from our foolish selves.

Jesus i tell you the truth was not a pleading for people to believe him. Jesus spoke with authority. When he says, verily, verily, he's telling you emphatically the certainty of his statement. It would be quite shallow to base whether Jesus' sayings are truthful or not based on a personal grammatical preferene.

Jesus was not a salesman...

I'm sorry you've had awful experiences of being lied to. i'd say check ou the things that Jesus says and see for yourself whethe they are truthful...

Hope that helps,

Nickster

No as truth is not an absolute; it is different depending on the perception of the individual. Each person bends the 'truth' to their own reality.

I don't know Does he like Bush?
Where does he stand on Israel?
What does he think of Finistine?

If he answers Yes Yes NO then he speaks the truth.

When someone says to me, this is true or I'm telling the truth, I ask.. Why do you normally lie?

Quakers refuse in court to 'swear to tell the truth' because they say it implies that they don't _always_ tell the truth.

Interesting that Jesus's followers get it but the man himself didn't...

they say to us how can you lead such empty lives, this to me swings it beyond all reason, that they were brainwashed into believing that I am empty without "their god"

hell no. those who claim the truth have only convinced themselves.

what is truth? do you honestly beleive a perfect being made an imperfect one for th sole purpose of worshipping him? why would a being (god) create us to worship him. if he was perfect he wouldnt need people to worship him. obviously god ha a need to make himself feel better.
