You mean Parvo. It would be like you getting the worst intestinal virus you have ever had. You don't feel well, don't want to eat, can't keep food down and have diarrhea. Why it is so dangerous, is that it is easily spread, and puppies don't have enough body weight to keep them going through the symptoms. They become dehydrated, as the intestines sluff off their lining, and they begin to have blood in their diarrhea. There is also an awful, unmistakable smell to a dog that is sick with parvo - can't explain it, but anyone who has been around it knows what I am talking about. A puppy can be saved from death, but it requires a vets care, as it needs to be on IV's to support it while taking very strong antibiotics. It usually takes about 5 days of this intensive care to come around. You can prevent this from happening to your dog by getting it vaccinated - start at 6 weeks of age, and don't take it to any public (Petsmart, parks, friends houses w/dogs) until it has completed it's vaccination schedule. Which is about 5 mos of age.

You mean Parvo.

If your dog has it please do not expose it to any other dogs that have not been vaccinated. Also, you will need to clean out all areas where your dog has pooped with a bleach solution or Virkon. It is highly contagious and the virus can last in soil for up to 5 years.

Vets have a hard time testing for this virus as it is only testable for a short period of time. However, parvo is pretty distinctive and is usually easy to diagnose. It is essential that if you think that your dog has parvo that he sees a vet immediately. If not treated almost all dogs die from this virus. Also, as it is contagious and as a precaution, please do not bring him/her into the vet's office until they are ready to see you.

Most older dogs have built up an immunity to this virus so it is most commonly found in puppies.

Hope this helps!

I think you are talking about Parvovirus. It causes the dog to shed the lining of its intestines and is highly contagious and it usually kills the dog.
