People disagree about whether it's okay to wear black to a wedding -- some say it's disrespectful, others say that these days that no longer applies.

I'd play it safe, not so much because I'm worried about others, but because a black dress at an afternoon summer wedding will be hot, and not in the good way!

Why not? I think that all of those fashion rules about seasons has gotten a bit trite. My grandma has even been starting to ease out of her fashion rules. If this was a formal wedding then black is worn all the time. In New York it seems like everyone wears black. And if you look good in the dress and it saves you from having to buy another one then you definitely should!! I mean do you think that the fashion police are really gonna show up and give you a warning? LOL! Have a blast. If you feel strange wearing black then just have a couple drinks before you leave and you'll forget all about it:)

I think it is acceptable. I believe black is acceptable at any time. I am getting married (in the fall) and my bridesmaids are wearing black. The traditional colors are OUT and it's time to do whatever you want! I've been to so many weddings in the last couple of years (including summer weddings) and there are always quite a few people wearing black - ALWAYS.

Yes, little black dress is good anywhere, but a wedding is pushing it. If it the only nice thing you have, wear a bright scarf or something. Or go buy a lighter-colored dressy dress for the wedding, anything but white.
It does imply that you are mourning the wedding, or have some problem and are too passive-aggresive to deck the bride.
Hope I helped.

Hmmmm. I say yes, because by the time the wedding is over it will be night, and a black dress is good at night. Just make sure that you wear an orange reflective vest so you can be seen by others.

The color standards of a generation ago really don't apply much today. I would not wear black to a wedding, but that's just me.

As long as you're not part of the family sitting up front, I say it's OK. Maybe brighten it up with a colorful belt or scarf and jewelry.

Not at 3 p.m. Black dresses are acceptable in Summer, but only after 6 p.m. Find a lighter colour.

It is never acceptable for anyone to wear black to a wedding. A wedding is a joyous occasion---it is not suppose to be a funeral. If you wear black expect the bride to get upset and expect to be left standing alone at the reception.

Well according to miss manners and my mother who is very issistant upon manners. A black dress is only appropriate to wear to a wedding if it is stated specifally that it is a black and white event and after 5pm. Otherwise it is considered and insult.

Black dresses are great for almost everything...ALMOST. A wedding is the exception. You should dress in something much lighter colored for a wedding. Also, black is a little "heavy" looking for summertime. Go for cheerful...not mournful.
