I'm getting eloped tomorrow, and the whole idea just seems so impersonal.

If you are worried about it being so impersonal, why don't you just wait a little while and plan something REALLY small for just a few family members and close friends to attend? Maybe 10 people tops - even if it's that everyone goes down to the courthouse or whereever with you to join in the celebration. Follow it with a nice dinner. Waiting even a week could make the difference between a corny Las Vegas 24/7 chapel with Hells Angels and buying $15 worth of flowers from the grocery store to hold and being surrounded by 3 or 4 friends and/or family.
Remember, this is supposed to be one of those events that you remember the rest of your life - would you rather rush or take a few extra days to add a bit more sparkle?

YOU MAY BE GETTING ELOPED, BUT THE WAY YOU GET MARRIED IS NOT IMPORTANT. WHY YOU GET MARRIED IS WHAT IS IMPORTANT. HAVE A ROMANTIC DINNER, CUDDLE, SHOW EACH OTHER HOW MUCH YOU LOVE ONE ANOTHER, AND THE MAKE LOVE AS A MARRIED COUPLE FOR THE FIRST TIME. I WISH YOU THE BEST OF LUCK!

write your own vows or if you like the traditional ones, ask if you can make "personal statements" to each other about what you love about each other, what you will/won't do for each other etc. you can make them sweet and sappy or funny or both!
also, have any wedding pics (or regular pics) of your parents/grandparents, people that can't be there that you are close to you? carry their picture with you.
make sure you get something old/new/borrowed/blue!

one idea is to make your rings very speical, take his and engrave a loving message on the inside, it will let him know how much you love him and how happy you are to become his wife.
