lets kill two birds with that stone in your hand.
there is one out there for sure and he will apear in your life as a suprise. you may have to change something in your life, meaning that you are not going to find mr right in a bar for example. rather in a place where you share an aspect of your life.
when you meet that person, be open and honest with him and if he has the same interest then the impact of your ex`s geering in your life will diminish because you will focus on the positive experience of your new friendship.
this hapened for me this summer and my feelings with my new girlfriend reminded me the importance of happiness in our short lives.
the ex will soon realise you can move on.
i know someone for you;-)

I personally think it's much easier to find Mr Right when you're happy and confident, and have your head free of any other entanglements.
Your ex sounds like an idiot and it sounds like you know it too, so don't waste any more of your valuable time on him - just cut contact. I know it'll hurt in the short term, but in the long term you'll get over him and feel much better.
Then you'll be able to be happier, move on and be more open to meeting someone lovely. Just don't tolerate any nonsense - if someone messes you around then move on, you won't meet someone nice if you're wasting time on the wrong guy. Generally, if someone treats you badly it means you're not right for each other - if they thought enough of you then they wouldn't mess you around.
Have you thought about trying internet dating? Often the people on there are sincere about trying to meet someone for a decent relationship - it worked for my fiancé and I anyway, plus several other couples we know!
Good luck!

you've got to be open to your destiny. letting the ex hang around will block things. sure someone's out there for you. why not?
