He punishes Adam and Eve for eating from the Tree of Knowledge.

He destroys the Tower of Babel when humans work together to build a great project. Then makes them unable to understand each other so that they can no longer share their knowledge.

Lucifer - the Light Bearer - becomes the symbol of evil.

This seems to be the trend throughout the Judeo-Christian tradition.

With a philosophy like that wouldn't it make it so much easier for the ruling elite of the religion to control people?

Don't ask too many questions, god doesn't like it!

Patricia V - Thank you for completely proving my point. Your god doesn't want anyone to be on the same level as himself. He wants everyone to wallow in ignorance because he has the mentality of a violent, spoiled 3 year old child.
Also, in my experience anyone who says "I tell you the truth" all the time are usually the BIGGEST LIARS. It's just like when someone says "I am SO NICE", in all likelihood they aren't.

They chained Prometheus to a rock too. The antinomian path is freedom. But isn't it clear from His followers that the Christian god values ignorance? Just look at their abortive attempts at reason on this site for instance.

Speaking of ignorance....
Inform yourself better!!
God punished Adam and Eve because they wanted to be like God. The same goes for Babel, and the same for Lucifer!
They call it the tree of knowledge, but if you read what the serpent says you'll realize that you're misinformed.

"...the serpent said to the woman. 'For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.' " (Genesis 3:4-5)

The same goes for Babel: "Then they said, 'Come, let us build ourselves a city, with a tower that reaches to the heavens, so that we may make a name for ourselves..." (Genesis 11:4)

AS far as Lucifer, go do a search here in yahoo! answers, there was a question about it already.

In fact, if you ever read the Bible you will realize that Jesus is all about transparency. Check out what is the phrase that is one of the most repeated in the Bible. It is: "I tell you the truth"!!!!

People, pls, do a research before making accusations!

He punished Adam and Eve for disobeying Him.

He destroyed the Tower because they were building temples to worship false gods, which many times involved sexual orgies, and human sacrifices. Which are wicked in the eyes of God.

God gives His people knowledge, wisdom and understanding that the people who are not called His do not get. They cannot even begin to comprehend the goodness of the Lord. They twist and pervert everything He calls good and pure.

Today's struggles with religionists are around the same themes, unfortunately.

Don't educate teens about condoms and birth control; they might be able to make decisions to help themselves. Keep them ignorant in the hope that they'll submit to control by the church or government.

Don't give women control over their bodies. Limit education in the schools to religious tenets and Creation Theory.

It's still the same issue. Humanity makes progress despite the repressiveness of the Abrahamic faiths (Judaism, Christianity, Islam).

First, it was the tree of good and evil. Like all good parents, God did not want his created people to have to deal with pain and tragedy. He wanted to shelter them in paradise.

Second, read the first few pages of Proverbs. The main emphasis is understanding, knowledge, and wisdom. It states, wisdom is the principal thing, therefore, get wisdom. Seriously, everything in proverbs is good stuff.

Lucifer was after power and hedonistic, not the light bearer.

You really need to do some research for you are very naive.

Remember, Lucifer told the truth to Adam and Eve, not god.

For centuries the church held education as its balliwick...only teaching nobles to read, and using the bible to do so. The answer is simple: keep the masses unenlightened and they're easier to control. If the general population is not educated, they will believe in the superstitions. It was a political tactic.

kinds. you're observing kinds and shadows of issues to return. they're figurative meanings to propitiation. that's why some atheist web pages think of that they are observing contradictions on the subject of sacrifices of bulls and goats. they don't comprehend (no longer purely atheists, even some Christians too), that God substitute into exhibiting his reaction (non violent, delighted, a turning away of wrath, i.e. propitiation), to an sufficient sacrifice. He may be the only to declare it sufficient. and that's what God is exhibiting, what occurs while an sufficient sacrifice is made. the actual propitiation comes with Christ, who died in that propitiatory way. The regulation of Moses substitute into purely pointing in direction of Christ, even prophetically. that's what maximum omit!

Everything that you have brought up reflects man's disobedience to God. What would you do with an unruly child? Reward him or punish him. God chastises those he loves (Revelation 3:19)

Why would the Church require so much schooling for Priests if they want them stupid?

Why historically were the brightest people the men of God?

Does not hold water.

Peace!

God loves it when you ask questions! That's why He gave us the Bible, His revelation of Himself to us.

It's our problem when we choose to reject the answers!

God is Pro-Choice!

Choose right or wrong, choose life or death.

Just choose and quit screaming about it!
