Could it be Mantova?

Mantova ( or Mantua in English ) is a small city of about 60000 people between Venice and Milano on the river Po. This is the same Mantua that was featured in Romeo and Juliet.
Nice place. Small but full of history from the Etruscans to modern times. You can also go to the real Romeo's house.

I don't know, but they have an institution of higher learning called Wassamatta U. ;)

But seriously, this site has lists of places in Italy in alphabetical order. See if anything there rings a bell:

An atlas would really come in handy for you, or better yet, go to the internet.
