There are several parts to this question.
Yes, you can take a TV as checked baggage, however, I advise that you pack it securely to avoid breakage.
Airlines don't restrict items unless they are classified as "dangerous goods". TVs do not fall under this category.
Most TVs are not the old tube type like they use to be, and airplanes are pressurized to the same air pressure you would find at about 8000 feet. So the pressure changes should have no affect on it.

To add what Loco said, yes you can check it. However, airlines are not responsible for any damage that may result from checking the item. It is outlined on the airlines website, an example from Delta.com is below, most airlines have the same rules. You will have to sign what is called a Limited Liablity Release, which simply states you will not hold the airline responsible should any damage result. Even if you get to your destination and notice something is broken, you wont be able to file a damage claim. Make sure you lable the box as fragile and which end is up, doesnt mean it will be handled that way. The belts, slides and shoots do not take into consideration the contents. Some of the baggage handlers pay no attention to the stickers either. Loading an aircraft is commonly called "throwing bags", when we have 40 min to unload and load an aircraft, thats what has to be done. Repeatitive motion...so damage can happen. Ive had to go down and help unload and load an aircraft before in a quick turn situation and I will admit, throwing bags is what has to be done in order to get the aircraft out of the gate. Plus bags are stacked on top of each other, you may want to put a sign on it "DO NOT STACK" on the box or "TOP LOAD ONLY", which will advise the ramp not to stack anything on the box and to only load it on the top. May not happen, but atleast you can give them a heads up that something inside is fragile.
So, make sure you label it, advise the agent what is in the box, they will ask anyway, and you will be required to sign a release, which is ON the tag, so you cant say you didnt sign anything. The box must be under 50lb to be checked for free and will be counted as one of your 2 free pieces. Anything over will be charged as excess baggage. Anything up to 100lb will be accepted, over 100lb will have to be shipped as cargo and will not be accepted at the ticket counter. So, check it at your own risk, but dont be attached to it just incase.

There is a weight restriction, I believe its 50 lbs, and then you'd have to pay extra. I also do not trust the baggage handlers to be careful with it, so make sure it says fragile on it. The cargo hold is pressurized and the little pressure changes won't hurt the tv. The biggest risk is the baggage handlers throwing it around. But you can check it.

I have travelled with computer monitors all the time... not a problem. Only issue is that they may ask for a liability waiver if it is in a cardboard box. I would double pack the box in a large bag or something similar. Air pressure will not affect the picture tube. If the box weighs more than 50 lbs then u may have to pay extra.

I think you can cause i hv seen a lot of people carry TV's in international flights. But I think there are weight restrictions that each baggage should weigh no more than 30 pounds if you fly inside US.

Yes, it will just count as one of your bags or you will have to pay extra if you already are checking 2 bags. I flew yesterday and the people next to me checked a 20" tv screen.
