All dogs will bark to warn you someone is in their 'territory'. By watchdog - to just warn you of others around your property or an attack dog? If attack dog, they need to be specially SAFELY trained. You can't leave training to chance or you may be the cause of a fatality. Be very careful! For the most part tho, any dog that loves you & your family will be very protective of you. Try to get a pup from the shelter & save a life -- just be sure it's healthy before you adopt it!

Due to the warm weather, you want to get one that has short and not too thick of hair. Doberman's are naturally protective of their owners and should work out in that climate. Just be sure the dog is not just for protection, but will also be a member of your family.

Not a golden retriever, he just sees the mail lady and runs away.I had a German Shepard mix before and he was a very good watch dog. I suggest German Shepard's since the police use them. They do fairly well in warm climates. I live in LA and ot gets pretty hot in the summertime and he did well.

German Shepards are great watch dogs, but not sure how well they do in mediterranean climate. I would think they are okay though.

Friendly obeident dogs. My friend trains protection dogs, friendlier the better.

miniature pincher's are good watch dogs because i have always wanted a dog and to get one i had to study about the dog i love most i went to a website and it said miniature pincher's are very alert and will protect its owners i love them.

I don't know.. Beagles are awesome. There mouths will wake up the dead. YAP YAP YAP.. also Rotties are nice..
