dll's are dynamic link libraries and basically they're small bits of program code that get brought in and out of the computers memory by individual programs. Occasionally, two programs can have a dll of the same name, so installing one will over-write the other, or worse still installing the program will fail to copy the dll if one of the same name already exists. It's an inherent problem, albeit rare, with the Microsoft operating platform.

this is a common problem. dll,s or dynamic link libaries are the parts of programs that make them run basically, every program that runs on a windows operating system will contain some type of dll
every now and again a dll will fail to load or will be missing, this file may only be half a byte in size but can bring a application to a halt
from what i can see from your question ddraw.dll is part of a driver called direct x,this was made by microsoft to aid in the running of 3d graphics,so by the sounds of it,you need to update your direct x files,as you may only be using direct x 8 ,and you really need direct x 9.0c
you can download this file from this link....http://www.microsoft.com/windows/directx/default.mspx,once downloaded you should install this straight away and then restart your computer
you will find that all your games should run now,and it would also be a good idea to update your graphic card drivers, you can find what card you are using by going start>control panel>display properties>settings>advanced>adapter>your graphic card name will be there and also the cards memory and dac(digital-analogue-converter)
the main 2 graphic drivers are ati and nvidia ,you can download the latest drivers from the following links
1. ati......https://support.ati.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=894&task=knowledge&folderID=293
2.nvidia........http://www.nvidia.com/content/drivers/drivers.asp
allways remember to uninstall your current graphic drivers before you install the new ones,by going in add/remove programs and uninstalling the appropriate drivers
graphic card drivers ussually have new updates every other month so its worth updating them every time you install a new game ect
hope this helps you
good luck
